'Subliminal' Colorful Mixed Media Contemporary Abstract by Steven H. Rehfeld
Located in Carmel, CA
This 20" x 30" contemporary abstract mixed media piece by Steven Rehfeld is a captivating exploration of form, color, and texture. The composition features a harmonious blend of soft pastel hues — calming blues, delicate pinks, and mellow yellows — juxtaposed against more assertive tones of deep magenta, vibrant orange, and charcoal gray. The painting showcases Rehfeld's signature style of blending geometric shapes, notably triangles and circles, with freer, more organic brushstrokes. The added depth is achieved through the inclusion of mixed media elements: fragments of paper with faint sketches, scribbles, and translucent overlays create a multidimensional visual experience. The smoky, sinuous black mark towards the center adds a hint of dynamism, while the layered application of paint and paper produces a tactile richness, making the piece an engaging visual journey. Steven is now one of the top emerging artists in the U.S. His works are groundbreaking, bold, and imbued with unflinching disregard for painting conventions. Many works are in collections and museums in the U.S. Steven is also part of the 'Outsiders' school of art, originating in France in the 19th century. Also known as the Naïve movement, and was comprised of people with no art training at all, who suddenly started to paint. Many of them are from very challenging backgrounds. All they had was talent that had never before been tapped. In no time this movement became a significant art phenomenon and spread all over the world. His work, however, has branched out past the movement and his use of earth elements renders a basic and raw interpretation of his message. Original, 1-of-1. Shown at the American Art Gallery, Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. Keywords: colorful, mixed media, contemporary, abstract, expressionism, blue, pink, yellow, magenta, orange, grey, Steven H...

Located in Surfside, FL
Marty Greenbaum (1934-2020) ''Brooklyn Local in Weege Wisconsin'' Lithograph, with hand-coloring, blind stitching, stitching, burning, tape collage and paint with Jewish, Hasidic, Sleepy Moishy character. Marty Greenbaum (1934-2020) was an American painter, mixed media assemblage and book artist. Greenbaum is best known for his mixed media assemblage, painting and artist books. Greenbaum appeared in three films: Hallelujah the Hills in 1963 by Adolfas Mekas, Life Dances On, in 1980 by Robert Frank, and The Present in 1996 by Robert Frank. Between 1962 and 1965 he took part in happenings by Allan Kaprow and experimental dance by Yvonne Rainer. Greenbaum authored his own happenings, i.e. Coney Island Carny, including artists such as Eddie Barton, Remy Charlip, Paul Kaplow, Paul Krasner, Al Hanson, Ed Blair, Allen Ginsberg, John Hammond, Eddie Rabkin, Lou Gossett, Renee Renee, Allan Kaprow, Phyllis Yampolsky, Thomas Hoving, Jackie Ferrara, Peter Schumann, Jim Bell, Bill Marshall, Corla Lopez, Bruce Waite, and Mark di Suvero, as well as organizing the Hall of Issues with Phyllis Yampolsky at The Judson Memorial Church. Greenbaum had several teaching positions in the New York City public school system and was a member of the Creative Artists Public Service program twice, he also participated in various exhibitions with book objects. His work is in several public collections including The Art Institute of Chicago, Artists' Books, The Brooklyn Museum Collection, The Chrysler Museum, Norfolk, VA, Citibank, NYC, Colgate University, Hamilton, NY, Jacksonville Art Museum, Jacksonville, FL, Madison Art Center, Madison, WI, SUNY at New Paltz, NY and more. Books as Objects "Greenbaum, an early conceptualist, burned books in the 1960s, exhibiting the remains as 'corpses.' Today, he makes fetishistic notebooks filled with colored paper and scribbled equations, accretions of feathers and Rhoplex." "Marty Greenbaum and Barton Lidice Benes destroy texts to create sculpture: Benes 'Bound Book,' a literal rope and wax imprisonment, and Greenbaum's 'Cutting Up,' a mixed media paste over of muted colors." Some of his most notable artist books include: "Batman" 1963-67, "In '84 Returned in 2004". Two stories about Marty from James Pernotto: we met at William Weege print shop in 1974 when he drove out from NYC with Alan Shields and Paco Grande and I was a lithography printer hired to work with them. Alan recalled on the trip out that Marty was working on his altered books and putting airplane glue on the pages and lighting it with a match. Enough said. I printed for Marty. Sszumiita (Abstract painting)
Located in London, GB
Sszumiita (Abstract painting) Acrylic and color tape on canvas - Unframed. Philippe Halaburda is a French artist who has coined the term Geographic Abstraction to describe his work. Through his use of color and lines, Halaburda creates sharp imaginary landscapes that visualize the interconnectedness of humans and their environments. Since moving to New York City in 2016, Halaburda’s work has been influenced by the city’s linear urban environment. He describes his current work as geographic abstraction or psychogeographic mapping, and sees his designs as translating human and non-human interactions and emotions into colorful, imagined landscapes. His work evokes the geometric constructions of Russian avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich, and Halaburda has cited Piet Mondrian as an influence on his use of color. In 2019, Halaburda published his first art book entitled ‘Spatial representation of emotion’ about his work in New York since 2016. Halaburda also offers commissions and public window tape art, including a recent display for the Hyatt Regency Hotel...

K-narf, French (b. 1970) Collage photo artwork (Graffiti Vans) (2011) Tape-o-graph photography Signed lower right, numbered 1/5 16 x 12 7/8 inches K-NARF was born in 1970 in Saint-Etienne, France and now lives in Tokyo. K-NARF invented PHOTOGRAFFITI a contemporary way of making street photography that lead him to develop his singular Tape-o-Graphy technique. It involves the application of adhesive tape strips on developed photographs in order to manually process the photographs giving them a unique surface texture and extraordinary appearance. Open to influences from street art and video, he uses the medium of photography as a toy to create and play. Both conceptual and experimental, definitely non-conventional, his work documents, recycles and collects the visual anachronisms of a world in a perpetual mutation. Through the years, K-narf often got support from key figures of the art world such as Teruo Kurosaki (Idee, Tokyo), Rotraut and Daniel Klein-Moquay (Yves Klein Estate), Joel Meyerowitz (pioneer of contemporary color photography), Jacques Attali (French writer), Olivier Gay (Architect & Art collector) and Yoichi Nakamuta (curator & Art producer). He collaborates on regular basic with...
