About the Item

Artist Comments
Ripe blackberries glow in the summer sun. Golden yellow, purple, blue and green applied in painterly brushstrokes and brought into focus with fine line work.

About the Artist
Melissa is passionate about color. She finds it to be the most significant form of inspiration to paint. Speaking on influences in her work, Melissa says, “Sometimes it’s an idea that I can’t get out of my head, or a color that I just MUST paint!” She particularly enjoys painting leaves, and the changing colors of Oregon foliage are visible in her work. In 2001, Melissa began teaching art classes, which has allowed her to view her own artwork in a new way. “The information that flows in a class is awesome,” she says. Melissa is constantly learning from the students in her classes, and is more conscious of what it means to be an artistic role model.

Grape
By Melinda Hackett
Located in New Orleans, LA
Hackett’s paintings defy popular convention. They are not figurative, decorative, representative, or even completely abstract. While it is hard to tie them to any one style or movement, they manage to be a part of all of them. Hackett’s work is influenced by pattern, midcentury design, art of indigenous peoples, and the art and craft movement, combined with a loose examination of the natural world. She creates a visual environment that is both recognizable yet strangely mysterious. While steeped in art history and influenced by a range of artists from Miro to Arthur Dove, Charles Burchfield, Agnes Pelton, Florine Stettheimer...

Winkler has exhibited in solo and group shows nationally in galleries, regional museums and art fairs since 2004. Her work was recently showcased at the LA Art Fair, Art Aspen and the Jackson Hole Art Fine Art Fair. In 2019, Winkler was selected by US Ambassador, John Pommersheim and the curators of the Art in Embassies program to participate in a 3-year International exhibition at the Ambassador’s residence in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
