About the Item
Artist Comments
"This piece was inspired by the ability of some individuals to survive and move successfully in difficult and unfair situations," says artist Yelitza Diaz. "They overcome every obstacle with success and enjoyment. Individualism as a way of life." The piece is a ceramic sculpture that has been finished in a way to look like bronze. Each Small Being is individually hand-modeled with clay at a high temperature and painted in bronze. It is then placed on a solid wood panel, which has been painted.
About the Artist
Born in Venezuela, Yelitza Diaz;s life has been wrapped in the arts since childhood. She founded a gallery with her husband, who is also an artist, and was successful for many years until the crime and corruption in the local government became unbearable. Her sculptures are made with ceramic techniques using a minimalist contemporary style. Fun fact: Yelitza designed the town seal for her native Municipio Falc;n in Venezuela.
