About the Item

Peter Mayer is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the worlds of textile art, cinematic design, and spatial experience. He holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, where he cultivated a deep foundation in visual arts, material exploration, and immersive storytelling. With over three decades of experience as a Production Designer and Art Director in the motion picture industry, Peter brings a cinematic approach to all of his design work. His interiors—both commercial and private—reflect a sensitivity to light, sound, and form, often incorporating textiles as key visual and tactile elements. His design ethos emphasizes warmth, comfort, and organic shapes, drawing inspiration from the natural world. Peter’s practice is further enriched by his global perspective, shaped by extensive travel and his work as a consultant to international arts programs. Also a professional musician and audio recording engineer, he integrates acoustic awareness into his spatial design —creating environments that engage both visually and sonically. As a textile designer, Peter is best known for his ongoing collaboration with Parvaze, a master chain-stitch wool artist from Kashmir. Together, they fuse century old techniques with contemporary aesthetics, creating richly textured works that honor cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern design. Their work received international recognition when Parvaze was awarded the inaugural DIVERSEartPB Museum Acquisition Award at Art Palm Beach, with the honored piece entering the permanent collection at the La Neomudéjar Museum in Madrid.
