About the Item

Parvaze and Peter Mayer come together to collaborate on hand-stitched contemporary tapestries. Parvaze, a talented chain-stitch artist from Kashmir, India, showcases the exquisite beauty of this ancient craft through his work. Using worsted yarn of high quality and traditional techniques, Parvaze creates intricate patterns on hessian cloth, employing a hook-type tool known as an aurah. Peter Mayer, an American designer from San Francisco, brings over 30 years of experience in the creative industry. His designs are partly inspired by the time he lived in Bali where a profound appreciation for the intersection of craftsmanship and creative expression was fostered. Parvaze, in collaboration with Peter Mayer, creates pieces that not only pay homage to the rich heritage of Indian craftsmanship, but also reflect a contemporary reinterpretation of influences from great masters. Each piece exudes a unique blend of Indian culture and modern sensibilities, captivating viewers with its timeless allure. Parvaze and Mayer’s dedication and artistic talent were recently recognized at Art Palm Beach where they received the prestigious DIVERSEartPB Museum Acquisition Award. One of their pieces is now part of the permanent collection of the La Neomudejar Museum in Madrid. Emmanuelle G. Contemporary is proud to promote diversity through art. In an effort to support local artists and communities, proceeds from Parvaze and Mayer sales will be donated to CHINAR Kashmir, a NGO based in Kashmir, India. For each purchased piece, a child’s nutrition and education will be sponsored.
