About the Item

Parvaze and Mayer's collaborative practice fuses century old techniques with contemporary aesthetics, creating richly textured works that honor cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern design. Each piece is made using a centuries-old Kashmiri chain stitch, carried forward by generations of master embroiderers, with designs drawing on mid-century aesthetics and the landscape of Kashmir itself. The result blurs the line between craft and art, tradition and modernity, past and present. Peter Mayer holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and brings over three decades of experience as a production designer and art director in the motion picture industry, a background that grounds the duo's compositions in a cinematic sensitivity to light, form, and immersion. Parvaze is a master artisan based in Kashmir, India, trained in a chain stitch technique rooted in regional craft practice. The collaboration earned international recognition when Parvaze received the inaugural DIVERSEartPB Museum Acquisition Award at Art Palm Beach, with the honored work entering the permanent collection of La Neomudéjar Museum in Madrid.
