Inside the Maze

About the Item

Abstract painting with geometric lines and vibrant colors. On canvas. About the artist: Patrick’s work has been seen and collected all over the states and Europe. His most recent shows include Budapest Art Market, Budapest, Hungary, Spring Break Art Show in NYC, Southern Alleghenies Art Museum, Altoona, PA and Art Ventures Gallery in Menlo Park, CA. His work was just pick up by the Thomas Punzmann Gallery in Frankfurt, Germany. He has attended residencies in the US, Italy, and France. He will be attending Faire Studio Artist Residency in Nerac France in July 2023. Artist Statement I have studied color, and the effects it produces for many years. I believe in the timeless power of color, it is aggressive, frenzied, and moody. Color is elusive, logical, and scientific and manipulates our perception of space and depth. Color has become a catalyst for change and therefore color can be thought of as political and can strike of a nerve, but color also gives us joy. I describe my work as hardedge color fields with a digital sensibility that explores the language of geometric abstraction. Influenced by Op Art, I have worked with abstract shapes and forms to confront the world around me. My recent paintings I am placing two/three/four different color schemes within a single work. The idea is to bring disparity together or fine common grounds within color schemes. Optical transparency and mathematical geometry demand focus—yet require distraction at the same time. My work is a balance of harmony and chaos. A mirror of our times, it shows us who we are.

Abstract. Vibrant. Painting. About the Artist: "I contemplate every color, mark, and placement of the line to formulate what I call rhythmic velocities: relationships of color and motion that give life to the composition, creating a heartbeat. I am interested in the duality of math and design: through repetition, a line made of color becomes a rhythmic pattern. This concept is found when composing music, organic landscapes and architectural structures. By referencing these sources, my abstractions transcend their formal components, reaching beyond a minimalist canon. My work is composed of hard edges and thin lines set against an abstract field or a pictorial space. Each color has a quickness that is relative to the colors surrounding it; this gives my paintings visual movement and dislocates the viewer. Through linear and geometric forms, my paintings explore design and mathematical concepts found broadly throughout culture. They are improvised from a wide range of sources such as my conversations with scholars in various fields of music, architecture and engineering, my life experiences and travels." Acrylic paint on canvas; on heavy duty stretcher bars ready to hang. 60 cm x 80 cm (23.6 x 31.5 inches) – 3.5 cm deep (1.37 inches deep). Initialed on the back. Original artwork ships in a box...
