Oil on panel
A signature style piece with bold, beautifully painted roses and his distinct signature. It is painted on panel and is an unusual size which gives the painting a wonderful feeling of space and tranquility.
1890-1948
He was born at Rotterdam and spent his early years perfecting his technique in Holland.
He specialized in painting still life subjects, landscapes and figurative compositions.
He mainly painted in oil and in a very bold and colourful, yet realistic style- his trade-mark signature being instantly recognisable.
As his career progressed he spent increasingly more time in France- producing quite a large body of work until he died there at Saint-Maur.
His work is highly collected being held in many private collections, and consequently is popular when it comes up in auction.
