About the Item

As you know, the pictures you have (Illustrated Gallery) were decommissioned from the New Britain Museum of American Art. There is no indication of who donated them to the museum. Considering he is a Connecticut artist, it is a bit surprising they did not keep any of his works. The listing when the pictures sold said they were for Traveler's insurance calendars, which family members said was consistent with the type of commissions he worked with. His best known works are murals like the ones in the Nutting House. There are also some public murals, including one that was recently restored in West Hartford, and another reportedly in New Britain. The Nutting House murals he painted with his father, Edwin Yungk. Edwin Yngk did mostly illustrations for catalogs and other commercial and industrial work. If searched via the intemet, you will find that one of the crowd that Walter Korder hung out with was Jimmy Cagney who was an amateur painter. There is also a portraiture award given in Walter Korder's name in Connecticut. Biography courtesy of: Larry Yungk, Walter Korder's Great-Newphew
