Cleansing A Shrike/ Blackbird's Bath - Hand coloured Print in Walnut frame
Located in London, GB
Hand-coloured portrait of a bird-like spirit, immobilised in marble, cleansing in a spring-time bath. A character formed from Naiads (a Greek nymph of flowing water), and exploring the idea of a ritualistic cleansing to wash away sombre deeds. Taken from The Sialia Marbles, a series of portraits containing ephemeral human sculptures taken between 2016-19. Together these works act as tales contained in a fictional sculpture hall, in direct reaction to Andre Malraux’s 1947 Le Musee Imaginaire (Museum Without Walls). During the beginning of the 'Museum Age' in the 18th century , writer Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe discussed mythical sculpture...

Hand-coloured Print of weeping mythical sculpture angels in Walnut Frame
Located in London, GB
Hand-coloured tableau of a weeping spirit and her guardians, immobilised in marble. A disjointed narrative looking at recovery and protection, the angels shield the spirit with tender embraces and cry for her when alone. The Astonishing Steam Rhinomotive (Surreal Antique-Style Manipulated Photograph
Located in Hudson, NY
C-type archival print, edition of 10 12 x 16 inches, edition of 10, $1500 35 x 40 inches, edition of 3, $3500 20 x 24 inches, edition of 7, $1800 This sepia-toned antique-style figurative photograph was created by London-based photographer Nick Simpson. Here, the artist exemplifies steampunk style with a steam-powered rhinoceros of his own invention. Much of the photograph is staged, with real sets, props, and models wearing elaborate costumes, while other details are rendered in a photo-editing program. About the work: London-based artist Nick Simpson is celebrated for his fictional series entitled The Bumforth Man Collection. The series consists of archival prints inspired by a mythical story concerning a quantity of glass photographic plates discovered in an old oak chest on the Bumforth Manor estate in rural England, the family home of the Gascoigne-Simpsons for over nine generations. These plates, which had laid gathering dust for over a hundred years, were supposedly the work of Simpson’s great grandfather, Samuel Heracles Gascoigne-Simpson, a disciple of William Henry Fox Talbot, commonly considered to be the father of photography. To bring this story to life, Simpson starts by building a set, authentically styled and dressed to re-create the Victorian photographic salons of the late 1900s. This becomes the stage upon which he places his eclectic choice of models and actors, all following his original tight narrative to create a richly detailed tableau. The scene is then captured in a single sitting using an original 1867 'Petzval' lens mounted on a mahogany plate camera...

The subjects for his striking and captivating visuals are typically set in the most ordinary environments, drawing the viewer into a charged but serene experience based on composition, palette and formal lines. Saturated in color, the nominal subjects gather a haunting and mesmerizing quality, creating a poignant pretext for the making of a formal color photograph. Decisively capturing the traces left by humanity, Pawassar's images are filled with a sense of universal nostalgia and pay homage to the passage of time and the extinguished moment, referencing documentary and street photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sebastian Salgado...

Andreas Feininger Monumental B&W Photograph, 1951
Located in Washington, DC
Large and wonderful B & W photograph by American photographer Andreas Feininger (1906-1999). Photograph is of a gorilla rib cage. Printed in 1951, it measures 8ft. 10 in. x 10ft. Photograph is attached to linen and can be rolled for easy storage and shipping. Feininger was born in Paris, France, the eldest son of Julia Berg, a German Jew, and the American painter and art educator Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956). His paternal grandparents were the German violinist Karl Feininger (1844–1922) and the American singer Elizabeth Feininger, (née Lutz), who was also of German descent. His younger brother was the painter and photographer T. Lux Feininger (1910–2011) In 1908 the Feininger family moved to Berlin, and in 1919 to Weimar, where Lyonel Feininger took up the post of Master of the Printing Workshop at the newly formed Bauhaus art school.[2] Andreas left school at 16, in 1922, to study at the Bauhaus; he graduated as a cabinetmaker in April 1925. Afterwards he studied architecture, initially at the Staatliche Bauschule Weimar (State Architectural College, Weimar) and later at the Staatliche Bauschule Zerbst. (Zerbst is a city in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, about 20 km from Dessau, where the Bauhaus moved to in 1926.) The Feininger family moved to Dessau with the Bauhaus. In addition to continuing his architectural studies in Zerbst, Andreas developed an interest in photography and was given guidance by neighbour and Bauhaus teacher László Moholy-Nagy.[3] In 1936, he gave up architecture and moved to Sweden, where he focused on photography. In advance of World War II, in 1939, Feininger immigrated to the U.S. where he established himself as a freelance photographer. In 1943 he joined the staff of Life magazine, an association that lasted until 1962. Feininger became famous for his photographs of New York...

Dark Flora Print Fly Agaric A floral arrangements x 3 Prints Set
Located in London, GB
"This image has been in my mind all year, waiting till the days shorten as we head into autumn until these fungi pushed upwards through the loam. Mushrooms are so delicate and begin to break down so quickly that I have not found it possible to bring them into the studio as part of a still life. It took 3 days of hunting and photographing the mushrooms in situ without picking them, then making red and white paper stand-ins to be able to compose and to cast correct shadows on the moss below. Long and laborious, but so worth it for the final image." - Jasper Goodall Inspired by Victorian era taxidermy dioramas, 'Dark Flora' is a series of photographs using wild plants and flowers in a curated yet naturalistic arrangement. The plants are foraged from forest clearings, hedgerows and roadside verges, often using humble and unassuming species rather than showy specimens so often used in floral photography. Each arrangement is gathered from within approximately a square mile and therefore represent seasonal ‘portraits’ of the local environments from which they came. Dark Flora #7 - Fly Agaric. A poisonous autumnal cornucopia of amanita muscaria...
