About the Item
Sanseviero's metal sculptures fool the eye. His "illusion sculptures" are only 1/16th of an inch thick and yet they appear to be 3 dimensional boxes with open centers that are stacked on top of each other. I have included a side view so that you can see how thin this illusion sculpture is. It is painted on both the front and the back sides.
He first designs how the formation of "Boxes" will layout and then hand cuts the shape he has just designed. He then welds the flat sculpture he has created to the metal base and then paints his sculpture with a trompe l'oeil or Fool the Eye effect so that the flat sculpture has volume and depth. He then paints the reverse side in the same manner so that the sculpture can be displayed facing either direction or in front of a mirror. This Sculpture measures 28" H x 24" W and is incredibly only 1/16 thick. The base measures 8" x 10". It is signed on the base and numbered 1 of only 4. It is a unique one of a kind sculpture, It is numbered 1 of 4 because there were only 4 sculptures with this box configuration at this size, but they are all unique because Sanseviero paints each sculpture to create the illusion effect. I have also included images of the sculpture in different room settings so you can see that the sculpture works well in both traditional and contemporary surroundings.
