"Sexy Scot" by Bob Haswell 28th October 1963: British actor Sean Connery lounges on a sofa with a cigarette. He is in London during filming of the thriller ‘Woman of Straw’ with Gina Lollobrigida. (Photo by Bob Haswell) Sir Sean Connery (born Thomas Connery; 25 August 1930 – 31 October 2020) was a Scottish actor. He was the first actor to portray fictional British secret agent James Bond on film, starring in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983.[1][2][3] Originating the role in Dr. No, Connery played Bond in six of Eon Productions' entries and made his final appearance in Never Say Never Again. Connery began acting in smaller theatre and television productions until his breakout role as Bond. Although he did not enjoy the off-screen attention the role gave him, the success of the Bond films brought Connery offers from notable directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Lumet and John Huston. Their films in which Connery appeared included Marnie (1964), The Hill (1965), Murder on the Orient Express...

Inside on Papers

Located in Ibadan, Oyo

Art has the power to express and convey complex ideas, emotions, and messages. One such artwork that has captured the attention of many is "Inside on Paper," a bright and colorful piece featuring a young man squatting in a relaxed position with one of his legs on a newspaper with the head of a monkey. The artwork depicts a young man in a relaxed posture, with one leg resting on a newspaper. The vibrant colors and bold lines give the artwork a dynamic and energetic feel. The man's expression is calm and meditative, inviting the viewer to take a moment to pause and reflect. However, upon closer inspection, the artwork reveals itself to be more than just a relaxed pose. This juxtaposition of the human form with the head of a monkey represents the interconnectedness of all living beings. The title of the artwork, "Inside on Paper," suggests that the man is reading or reflecting on the news printed in the newspaper. This is a commentary on the importance of being informed and aware of the world around us. The monkey's head symbolizes the impact that human actions have on the natural world and the importance of taking responsibility for our impact on the environment. The bright colors used in the artwork also carry significance. The vibrant hues of blue, orange, and yellow evoke a sense of joy and vitality, creating a whimsical and playful atmosphere. The use of color and pattern is also a nod to the rich cultural traditions of the artist's homeland, imbuing the piece with a sense of cultural identity and heritage. In conclusion, "Inside on Paper" is a remarkable piece of art that conveys a deep sense of interconnectedness and the importance of being informed and aware of the world around us. Through its use of animal and human forms, it celebrates the interconnectedness of all living beings and encourages us to take responsibility for our impact on the environment. As such, it is a masterpiece that is sure to captivate and inspire art lovers for generations to come. Signed limited edition print of Amy Winehouse taken at a laundromat in London by Jake Chessum. Jake recalls the session: “I travelled from NYC to London in February 2004 to do a press shoot with Amy Winehouse. It was a classic February day: cold, wet, foggy and dark by about 4pm. We met at her flat and went to a few of her local haunts: a cafe, a launderette, Primrose Hill. The record company were very hands off and didn’t pressure us to do any particular set ups. We just went with the flow. She was really entertaining: funny, smart and cooly indiscreet. I am a huge jazz fan and I remember we talked about music, London and New York.” Jake Chessum offers prints in multiple...

Ocean of Conversations, I Wonder What Speaks Beneath
Ocean of Conversations, I Wonder What Speaks Beneath

Ocean of Conversations, I Wonder What Speaks Beneath

Located in Ibadan, Oyo

At first glance, the central figure seated on the couch draws our attention. His posture suggests a moment of introspection, an invitation for viewers to peer into his internal world. The placement of the bottle of alcohol at his feet immediately introduces a layer of symbolism, hinting at the potential for inner turmoil and emotional struggles. The artwork encapsulates the notion that some of the most significant conversations we engage in are not the ones with others but the dialogues we have with ourselves. The inner voice, often unacknowledged but constantly present, plays a pivotal role in shaping our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Whether we are conscious of it or not, our self-talk influences our perception of the world, our self-esteem, and our overall well-being. Adetayo's portrayal deftly captures the spectrum of self-talk. On one end, the inner dialogue can be a source of positivity and empowerment, much like a guiding light illuminating our path. These self-affirming conversations inspire us, boost our confidence, and encourage us to pursue our dreams. Just as sunlight glistens on the ocean's surface, these moments of self-assuredness infuse our lives with brilliance and hope. On the other hand, the presence of the alcohol bottle suggests a darker side to self-talk. Just as the ocean's depths can conceal hidden currents, negative self-talk can be equally concealed, festering below the surface. The artwork serves as a cautionary tale, reminding us that unchecked negativity can erode our self-confidence and well-being. This juxtaposition underscores the importance of cultivating a conscious and compassionate inner dialogue. "Ocean of Conversations, I Wonder What Speaks Beneath" stands as a mirror reflecting our own inner landscapes. It prompts us to consider the conversations we engage in with ourselves—do we uplift and motivate or do we undermine and doubt? Adetayo's creation invites us to reflect on our own patterns of self-talk and the ways in which they shape our experiences. Adeniyi Joshua...

Serpentessa (Esopus, NY)

Serpentessa (Esopus, NY)

By Frances F. Denny

Located in New York, NY

Archival pigment print (Edition of 5 + 2 APs) Signed and numbered on label, verso This photograph is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. Frances F. Denny writes: “During the research process for a prior series of photographs, I discovered two related facts about my family tree: a) Mary Bliss Parsons, my 8th great-grandmother, was accused of witchcraft in 1674 in Northampton, Massachusetts, and b) less than two decades later in 1692, my 10th great-grandfather, Samuel Sewell, presided as a judge in the Salem Witch Trials. One body of work came and went, but this ancestral coincidence stayed with me. What is a witch? Who does that word belong to—now? “Major Arcana: Witches in America is a collection of portraits of women from across the United States who identify as witches. As early as 15th-century Europe, people condemned as witches faced a cruel fate: torture, and in many cases, death. Yet despite its history, recent decades have seen a reclaiming of the word ‘witch.’ In the mid-20th century, emerging pagan communities in the United States and Europe began embracing the term, and since then, ‘witch’ has been adopted by a diverse group of people. “Major Arcana explores the various ways the notion of witch-ness belongs to those who claim it, representing the witch as a self-sought identity that both empowers and politicizes its bearer. Each woman photographed for Major Arcana (including genderfluid and trans individuals) pursues a form of witchcraft, whether aligned with a religion (like Wicca or Voudou) or a self-defined practice. No two individuals inhabit the term ‘witch’ in quite the same way, but many consider themselves pagan, and engage in a diversity of traditions, including: mysticism, engagement with the occult, politically-oriented activism, polytheism, ritualized ‘spell-craft,’ and plant-based healing. Among those included in the series are self-proclaimed green witches, white witches, kitchen witches...
