Crafted from fibre and resin, the tabletop sculpture takes the form of a pristine white melting popsicle, incorporating the recognisable No. 5 Chanel label on one side and the interlocking CC logo on the other. On closer inspection, the familiar frozen treat reveals itself as a witty reinterpretation of a perfume bottle, complete with a broken corner that suggests a playful bite has been taken from its surface. Birla’s contemporary Pop Art approach transforms familiar imagery from fashion and everyday life into an unexpected sculptural object. The clean geometry associated with a perfume bottle is softened by the rounded form and melting appearance of the popsicle, creating an intriguing tension between elegance and humour. This combination of recognisable references allows the sculpture to feel immediately familiar while remaining surprising in its presentation. The sculpture’s silhouette plays an important role in its visual character.
