Attributed to the work of Tobias Stranover. Tobias Stranover or Toby Stranovius (1684–1756) was a Transylvanian Saxon-born painter (1684–after 1731).

The front panel showcases finely detailed enamel work depicting Mr. Punch and Toby the Dog in a comic studio vignette, surrounded by a theatrical border.

This is a rare piece dating from the late 19th century, we have Mr Punch sitting with his dog, Toby who is dressed as a clown The doorstop is cast Iron and in good used condition.

Character Jugs varied from the traditional Toby Jugs in that they only featured the head and shoulders of a character.
