Claudio Salocchi

Italian, b. 1943

Born in Milan 1934, graduated in Architecture at the Milan Politecnico University. He has been Vice-President of ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale), and has taught at the State Professional Institute of Furniture and Furnishings in Lissone and the School of Architecture of Milan Polytechnic. On an international level, Salocchi’s work covers the fields of architecture, interior and industrial design. A great deal of his works and projects were chosen and exhibited through selections or invitations at the most important exhibitions, events or museums, worldwide.

In 1973, Claudio Salocchi designed Free System: a system of padded furniture deriving from the concept of “operated flooring”, or tatami, where the padded units could be placed freely side by side. With its completely modular and sectional elements and from the perspective of an optimal use of space, we can view Free System as the embodiment of the modern house utopia.
