These cushions are embroidered with spider chrysanthemums, also known as 'Kiku', a traditional and auspicious Japanese symbol of regal beauty, rejuvenation and longevity.

Decorated throughout in black and gilt japanning and with a squab cushion covered in silk damask.

The Japanese traditionally use a cushion to sit on this chair.
