Georgian Sterling Silver Column Candlesticks (1803)
Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne
A magnificent, exceptional, fine and impressive, pair of large antique Georgian English sterling silver architectural column candlesticks; part of our ornamental silverware collection.
These magnificent antique Georgian English sterling silver candlesticks have a plain subtly tapering columnar form.
The large and impressive Corinthian capital of each candlestick retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconce ornamented with a plain moulded rim.
The cylindrical columns are supported by a cuboid plinth to an impressive plain square stepped three tier base.
Each plinth is embellished with a fine and impressive bright cut engraved coat of arms depicting the Head family coat of arms encircled with a belt accented with the family motto 'Study Quiet'.
The bases retain the original contemporary engraved inscription 'A token of respect from Francis Head to her aunt Dame Mary Ann Head. 1803' to the lowest tier.
Both candlesticks are fitted with turned mahogany bases to the underside.
These magnificent Georgian candlesticks were crafted by George Eadon, George Kibbles & John Weaver of George Eadon & Co.
The title ‘Dame’ was the traditional style for the wife of a baronet at this time and before although it was interchangeable with the title ‘Lady’.

Very Rare Pair of 18th Century Candle-Gripping Bell Metal Candlesticks, Ca. 1775
By James Tate of Birmingham
Located in Ottawa, Ontario
A very rare pair of 18th century neoclassical bell-metal candlesticks fitted with a unique candle gripping mechanism developed & patented by James Tate of Birmingham in 1775. Both showing flaring squared columns with hand embossed honeysuckle motifs, rising to tulip-shaped sockets with flaring drip pans that rotate and activate 3 horizontal flanges that grip a variety of different sized candles (one mechanism seized). Both raised overall on squared stepped basses bearing partially rubbed marks presumably for James Tate, together with the word PATENT within a wavy rectangular cartouche. Both also retaining their original push-rod candle ejectors.
It is well established as referenced by Ronald Michaelis in his book titled ‘Old Domestic Base Metal Candlesticks’, that very few antique bronze or brass candlesticks bear a maker’s mark, perhaps only one in a thousand.
Both exhibit an exceptional warm pinkish hue due to the high ratio of copper used in...

Candle Pit, White Beeswax Candle with Oak Tray by UMÉ Studio
By UMÉ Studio
Located in Oakland, CA
100% Beeswax, Frankincense essential oil, Organic Hemp wick and coloring.
Sold with a white oak tray.
This large scale candle is less about its shape than the way it burns, fast at first, revealing dramatic peaks and ridges, then very slowly as the wax spills out drawing convoluted motifs around it in an evocation of volcanic landscapes. Burning the candle becomes an experience between live painting, its tray being the canvas, and the contemplative hypnosis of a chimney fire.
No two candles burn the same, and thus, no two candles tell the same story.
~ 7.5”x7.75"
~ 10" tall
~ 4.5 lbs
Each candle is handmade in Oakland, CA.
Both experimentation and experience are central components of our work.
Each year, we aim to release one limited edition piece that deeply embodies those values and explores a field that we have most recently extensively worked on.
This year, we have been experimenting with wax and casting techniques.
