Reliquary Casket

Important early 18th century Italian baroque reliquary casket This large casket is one of only a few of it’s kind to survive in such a fine state of preservation.

It is likely that this statue would have been mounted atop a casket or reliquary, with the shimmering gold intended to replicate the light of heaven to all those who passed it.

This is a Bronze Reliquary Casket. It depicts a rectangular lidded casket/box shaped as a house with a hip roof and its walls are glasses framed with patinated bronze.
