Keith Haring Into 84 (Keith Haring Tony Shafrazi announcement card)
By Keith Haring
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Keith Haring Painted Man: Original 1983 announcement card for Keith Haring’s well-documented exhibition, Keith Haring 'Into 84' at Tony Shafrazi Gallery, New York, 1983. For this series Haring borrowed Jones' body — from head to toe — as the canvas to his work. A bodily canvas defined by much of the bold pictograms characteristic of Haring's artistic signature. Photos by Haring's long-time friend and collaborator Tseng Kwong Chi. Off-set printed, 1983. Dimensions: 6 x 4 inches. Some minor fading to the reverse; otherwise very good overall condition with strong colors. Literature: Keith Haring: Posters (Prestel pub.) Further About In 1983 Keith Haring teamed up with award-winning choreographer and dancer Bill T. Jones, founder of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. Keith and Bill met in London in 1983 at a time when the graffiti artist was opening a major show at the Robert Fraser Gallery, and together they produced a series of exceptional collaborations in both performance and drawing. Henri Rousseau was famous for his jungle-set fantasy paintings in what’s known as the Naïve manner. Examples include The Snake Charmer, The Dream, The Equatorial Jungle, Tiger in a Tropical Storm, Surprised! and The Repast of the Lion. On 1stDibs, find a wide variety of fine art from some of the world's top dealers and galleries.

Technically, Henri Rousseau was not a Surrealist artist. Surrealism first emerged during the 1920s, more than a decade after Rousseau's death. However, his fanciful imagery did inspire many Surrealist artists. Most art historians classify Rousseau as a Post-Impressionist. On 1stDibs, find a variety of Henri Rousseau art.
  • 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 23, 2024
Henri Rousseau's style of painting is called Post-Impressionism. Artists working in this style turned away from the realistic depictions of subjects common in Impressionism and began experimenting with bold colors and textures. Experts also categorize some of Rousseau's works as examples of Primitivism, a movement where artists used inspiration from tribal and folk art to inform their works. On 1stDibs, shop a range of Henri Rousseau art.
  • 1stDibs ExpertOctober 30, 2024
How much a Rousseau painting is worth depends on its size, historical significance, condition and other factors. In 2023, the French painter's Les Flamants sold for $43.5 million at auction. Depicting flamingos drinking from a peaceful lagoon before a lush jungle, the painting is an excellent example of the primitive-style landscapes for which Henri Rousseau is known. If you own a Rousseau piece, a certified appraiser or experienced art dealer can perform a valuation of it for you. On 1stDibs, find a large collection of paintings.

Whether Henry Miller was a Surrealist depends on what category of his work you're considering. With their stream-of-consciousness style, his novels and short stories do align with the characteristics of Surrealist literature. However, experts normally don't consider his watercolor paintings to be Surrealist art, as Miller began painting later in life after the movement ended. Shop an assortment of Henry Miller art on 1stDibs.

Henri Matisse was famous for his work as a draftsman, sculptor, printmaker and painter. He is especially well known for his use of color. Although classically trained at the Académie Julian in Paris, he quickly abandoned traditional techniques and genres to pioneer a style all his own, marked by quick gestural strokes and fluid contours. Along with fellow painter André Derain, Matisse was the leading proponent of Fauvism, a movement whose name is derived from the French word for "wild beast." Marked by vibrant hues, Fauvist paintings like Matisse's famous 1906 composition Le bonheur de vivre use wild, active brushstrokes and a palette unconstrained by nature. Marked by vibrant hues, Fauvist paintings like Matisse's famous 1906 composition Le Bonheur de Vivre use wild, active brushstrokes and a palette unconstrained by nature, resulting in women with purple skin and trees with orange leaves. Often, these compositions unite pure color with the white of the exposed canvas to create a sense of transparency and light. Shop a variety of Henri Matisse art on 1stDibs.

Henri Matisse, throughout his decades-long career, had a number of different impacts upon the art world. However, his seminal works in so-called Fauvism (French for ‘wild beast’) set him apart from the start. With strident use of color and seemingly wild brushwork, works from Matisse’s formative periods are among the most highly sought after by collectors. You’ll find a collection of expertly-vetted Matisse pieces from some of the world’s top dealers on 1stDibs.

Henry Link Furniture was established in the early 1960s. Although Henry Link is best known for his high-quality wicker dressers, desks, chairs and other seating, the designer and entrepreneur was also a key figure in revolutionizing America’s furniture industry and moving it toward mass production during the early 20th century. When he visited Henry Ford’s automobile plant in Detroit, Michigan, Link became inspired by the factory’s assembly process. Upon his return to Lexington, Link installed automatic conveyors and mass-production techniques at the Dixie Furniture Company, which he was leading as of 1936. To facilitate Dixie Furniture Company’s exponential growth, four separate divisions were created in the 1950s and 1960s, including Henry Link Furniture. The company was purchased by Michigan’s Masco Corporation in 1987. Find vintage Henry Link Furniture on 1stDibs.

The explanation of what happened to Henri Bendel bags owes to business decisions made by the brand’s parent company in late 2018. During the early 2000s, Henri Bendel bags soared in popularity, and the brand even won an Accessories Council Excellence Award in 2010. L Brands, the company’s owner since 1985, ultimately shuttered the Henri Bendel department stores and website in 2019 in order to put resources toward growing the other brands in its portfolio such as Victoria’s Secret. Henry Moore created sculptures for a few reasons. Born in Castleford, Yorkshire, in 1898, he had an early interest in being a sculptor, and in 1921, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Art in London. As he would explain, this is where he was particularly inspired to pursue his sculpting practice: “Even when I was a student I was totally preoccupied by sculpture in its full spatial richness, and if I spent a lot of time at the British Museum in those days, it was because so much of the primitive sculpture there was distinguished by complete cylindrical realization.” He also had an interest in exploring how the human body connected to landscapes. He often produced works with specific locations in mind, considering how his figures would relate to the space around them. His forms are usually abstractions of the human body, typically depicting mother-and-child or reclining figures, and are often pierced or contain hollow spaces. Many interpreters liken the undulating form of his reclining figures to the landscape and hills of his Yorkshire birthplace. On 1stDibs, shop a variety of Henry Moore art.
