Spectacular and large green ceramic panther finished with a patinated bronze effect; the proud animal was depicted in its classic, silent stance as it tends to silently approach its prey before attacking it; the powerful, well-delineated muscles highlight all the tension in the body, a depiction charged with strength and suspense, a classic example of the Art Deco style that exalted in its artistic expressions the forms, strength, and power of both humans and animals. The elegance of this sculpture lies in the details that the artist has made incredibly real, such as the tense muscles and alert eyes, the suppleness and elasticity, making this work a perfect piece of furniture. We must pay attention to the original workmanship; the piece of raw ceramic was first hand-molded into its final soft and elegant shape, then fired at about 1000° C, then an ancient technique was used by applying oil pigments with an ox brush, with a soft effect, capable of very fine undertones and shades, distributing the green color evenly for the panther and the darker green for the base; this stage requires a great deal of skill, as it is important that the color is evenly deposited on the surface of the object, at which point, very quickly, the piece, in order to fix the pigment, was put into the kiln between 920 and 940 degrees for the final firing to achieve the refined patinated bronze coloring. The object, which bears the author's initials above the base, was made between 1930 and 1933 by sculptor Alexandre Ouline in a workshop in the town of Luneville in the department of Meurthe and Moselle (France), a region famous for producing high-quality ceramics.
