Signed “SHUM” (faintly) lower right front and Stonelain pottery mark on the base with the intertwined double S mark.

The artist, Alfonso Vila Shum (1897-1967), was associated with the historic Associated American Artists of New York City and produced artwork for publication by the Association. The Association produced pottery under the Stonelain label from the late 1930’s to around 1952, and many of the pieces were decorated by important American artist of the time such as Thomas Hart Benton, George Schreiber, Marion Greenwood, Adolph Dehn...
