Antonio Prieto Vases and Vessels

Antonio ‘Tony’ Prieto was a ceramic artist and art professor at Mills College from 1950–67. He was born in Valdepeñas, Spain, on August 23, 1912, and immigrated to the United States as a child in 1916. After studying at Alfred University, he began to teach ceramics at California College of the Arts in Oakland in 1946. At the time, F. Carlton Ball was teaching ceramics at Mills College. When he left Mills College, Prieto succeeded him. Prieto passed away prematurely in 1967 while still working at Mills College in Oakland.
