This rare trolley, designed by Kurt Østervig and produced by Jason Møbler in Denmark, is a quintessential example of mid-century Danish design that artfully combines functional utility with refined aesthetics. Known for his ability to harmonize craftsmanship and usability, Østervig brings clarity and sophistication to this piece through a restrained yet elegant composition. The trolley is constructed from richly figured rosewood, which lends the piece a luxurious visual depth. The wood’s deep reddish-brown tones and vivid grain patterns are enhanced by a fine finish that retains a subtle sheen, revealing the material’s natural beauty. Complementing the rosewood structure is a durable black Formica surface, offering a practical, easy-to-clean working area without compromising the visual appeal. This combination of materials reflects Østervig’s thoughtful attention to both form and function. A notable feature of the design is the foldable tabletop, which can be extended to increase surface area when needed—ideal for use as a serving cart or additional tabletop in a dining or entertaining context. This element enhances the trolley’s versatility without disrupting its sleek, minimal silhouette. The clean lines and slender proportions allow the piece to integrate seamlessly into both traditional and modern interiors. Mobility is achieved through four brass casters, which are subtly inset to maintain the low, balanced profile. The brass accents contribute a subtle contrast and patinated warmth, while also serving a practical function. Their understated presence adds refinement without drawing attention away from the main structure. Kurt Østervig (1912–1986) was one of the prominent voices in mid-century Danish design. Trained as a shipbuilder, his work often demonstrates a deep respect for structure and joinery, while exploring warm, organic forms. Unlike some of his contemporaries, Østervig frequently designed with versatility in mind, producing pieces that could adapt to a variety of domestic needs without sacrificing aesthetic integrity. His collaboration with Jason Møbler, a Danish manufacturer known for its quality production and strong material sourcing, resulted in numerous elegant and lasting designs. This trolley remains in very good vintage condition, with minimal signs of wear. The rosewood has aged gracefully, maintaining its luster and expressive grain, while the Formica top is free from significant marks or damage. The brass casters function smoothly and add a refined finishing touch. A manufacturer’s stamp confirms the piece’s authenticity and origin. As a collectible and functional design object, this Kurt Østervig trolley...
