Questions About Barbour Silver Co. Furniture
  • 1stDibs ExpertOctober 7, 2024
Yes, Barbour silver is generally real silver. However, not all pieces produced by the brand are solid silver. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the American silversmith produced both solid sterling silver and silverplate tableware, flatware and decorative objects. Silverplate items consist primarily of base metal and have just a thin layer of genuine silver applied as a finish. On 1stDibs, shop a selection of Barbour silver wares.
  • 1stDibs ExpertOctober 24, 2024
Yes, some soldered silver is worth something. Soldered silver is the term for pieces that consist of pure silver that have been soldered onto a base metal. In terms of the value of its raw materials, soldered silver tends to be worth less than items crafted from solid silver. However, some pieces may have value based on their maker, type, age and other characteristics. Items made by well-known makers, such as Tiffany & Co., Franco Salimbeni and Georg Jensen, may be of particular interest to collectors. To get an estimated value for your soldered silver pieces, enlist the help of a certified appraiser or experienced antique dealer. Shop a variety of silver decorative objects on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Tiffany & Co. only uses sterling silver to create their silver jewelry designs. With proper care, the sterling silver of your gorgeous piece will last from generation to generation. You can shop a collection of Tiffany & Co. jewelry from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.
