Benjamin Kopman Art

American, Israeli, 1887-1965

Benjamin Kopman was born in Vitebsk, Russia, in 1887 and emigrated to the United States in 1903. Two years later, he enrolled at the National Academy of Design and earned his first major exhibition in 1914 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He achieved both commercial and critical success throughout the next decades, working both as a Works Progress Administration and commercial artist and as an exhibitor in solo and group shows. His paintings and prints are easily recognizable. Many of his subjects are of fellow immigrants, striking in their plainness and their ordinary activities. He paints in an almost primitive, cartoonish manner, using heavy black outlines that suggest the influence of Rousseau and Roualt. Kopman's work is held in the collections of many institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Reclining nude, Gustav Klimt Handzeichnungen (Sketch) collotype lithograph, 1922

By (after) Gustav Klimt

Located in Chicago, IL

Original 1922 collotype lithograph of a reclining nude figure, created from Gustav Kilmt’s handzeichnungen (sketch). Published by Thyrsos Verlag, Leipzig and Vienna, in an edition of 375. Klimt’s mastery of depth is most evident in the gentleness of his linework. Without the aid of shadow or the subtlety of values, the gestures of line allow the viewer a sense of a three-dimensional person or object. The meticulous lithographic process used to create Klimt’s Handzeichnungen portfolio ensures exceptionally crisp markings bearing a strong resemblance to the original sketches. This series showcases the quintessence behind Klimt’s signature visual style. This artwork arrives accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Century Guild has curated collections of Gustav Klimt’s printed...

DANNY GALIEOTE Riptide Study Conté and Gouache on Archival Paper 30 x 24 1/2 inches, Framed Danny Galieote has a propensity for capturing the quintessentials of Americana in works that blend realist narratives with a pop sensibility. The works are reminiscent of classic, vintage postcard imagery with an undercurrent of poetic, and often surprising, juxtaposition. The stylistic effect is a blend between the old-school charm of Norman Rockwell, with the unexpected twist of surrealist René Magritte. JoAnne Artman Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Danny Galieote with a focus on iconic American summertime scenes. Galieote belongs to a group of contemporary artists and writers that are part of a revitalized interest in American regionalist history and art. The American Regionalist art...
