"Spear Dancer", Spectacular, Rare Bronze with Male Nude by Brenda Putnam
By Brenda Putnam
Located in Philadelphia, PA
In an era when artists were capturing the exoticism and athleticism of modern dancers, such as Richmond Barthé's depiction of Féral Benga dancing with a large, curved sword or Paul Colin's drawings of Josephine Baker with her skirt of bananas, this sensuous presentation of a nude male dancer with a long spear stands out. The bronze was sculpted in 1926 by Brenda Putnam, who is best known for a series of bronzes showing children at play, often placed in gardens and parks. However, Putnam was ambitious to do more, leaving academic sculpture behind as she collaborated with architect Paul Philippe Cret to create the Puck Fountain for the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., executed a number of portraits in bronze, exhibited at the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles, and created "The Crest" -- consisting of a a large male nude swimming...

"Flight, " Beautifully Carved Stone Paperweight with Dove and Clouds
By Giuseppe Bessi, Brenda Putnam
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Highly distinctive and unique, this cylindrical paperweight is decorated on its upper surface with exquisitely detailed sculptural relief: a dove in flight, shown flying over a cluster of clouds and the word "FLIGHT." Although it shows a beautiful bird, storied in mythology and literature, this sculpture also hints at the flight of man, and the curving sides of the piece are decorated with Art Deco geometric forms, sharply incised into the stone. The artist was Brenda Putnam, who used this same image for one side of her well-known bronze medal, also entitled "Flight", issued in 1941 by the Society of Medalists...

Realistic original bronze sculpture of a nude female signed Brenda Putnam 1928
By Brenda Putnam
Located in New York City, NY
A fabulous original bronze sculpture of a voluptuous nude woman standing,
signed Brenda Putnam 1928, Kunst foundry
This statue of a nude torso sculpted by a highly skilled female sculptor, displays a sense of grace and beauty. The soft curves of the figure are captured in delicate detail, inviting the viewer to appreciate the natural form and sensual energy of the female body. The elegant pose, with the woman's head slightly tilted, her gaze cast downward, her back arched and her arms truncated in the style of a Venus de Milo, the goddess of love Aphrodite, adds to the sense of poise, poetry and refinement. The smooth, gleaming surface of the sculpture with its warm chocolate brown patina further enhances its overall aesthetic, creating a sense of timelessness and sophistication. Overall, the work is a stunning tribute to the female form and a testament to the skill and vision of the female artist.
The intensity of the pose, the expression and absence of reserve exudes a positive body image and confidence in her own beauty.
The variance in color in the photos is only a result of the camera's flash.
The patina is a very dark coffee brown.
