Bob (Robert) Stanley (1932-1997) was a painter, photographer and printmaker whose early work was figurative painting about contemporary American life. In the 1960s and early 1970s, he based his paintings on photographs, which he manipulated from black and white or silkscreen colored shapes. In the early 1960's, he began to base his paintings on images clipped from newspapers and magazines, following the example of Pop artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, who would become his brother-in-law. Enlarged and often simplified to two vibrant saturated colors Stanley's images could be reduced to the abstract or be powerfully explicit. His preferred subjects, including rock stars, athletes and pornography, always seemed to grate against the pretenses of high art. Similar in bold use of color to Malcolm Morley. In the late 1960's Mr. Stanley started using his own photographs, basing paintings on images of tree branches or the ground, and also using pictures of life-drawing models at the School of Visual Arts. Baryshnikov - Classic 20th Century work by Graphic artist Ivan Luz of Mikhail Baryshnikov at the height of his performance career in the late 1970’s. The piece is number 25 in a limited series of 100 and is personally and boldly signed by Baryshnikov. An excellent example of the popular contemporary graphic and poster style of the 1970s. Measures 21.375 inches wide x 26 inches tall x .75 inches deep. It is framed in its original blue metal frame and is ready for hanging. The work is in excellent condition with no color fading. The frame has a few minor scratches that do not detract from the quality of the work or presentation. This is a very fine limited edition serigraph. A serigraph is a type of printmaking process that involves pushing ink through a mesh stencil onto paper or another surface. Each color in the image requires a separate stencil, resulting in a unique, layered print. Serigraphs are often used in fine art and textile design. Hand printed silkscreen print, numbered and signed by Sir Peter Blake. The original photograph for the cover was taken at Michale Cooper's Flood Street Studio in Chelsea on March 30th 1967. The copyright of the photo remains with Apple, the Beatles management company. In 2007, after 40 years of trying, Peter Blake managed to get the Beatles to agree to publish a limited edition of 500 silkscreen prints on 410gsm Somerset cotton linter archive fine art paper medium, with the sheet size being 27 inches high by 26.25 inches wide. The image size being 19.5 inches square. Archival pigment inks were used with specialist glazing and an additional spot varnishing. 29 screens were hand applied to print the edition, being 27 colours plus 2 glazes. Every print bears the Apple logo embossed in the bottom centre. Published by Pete Smith of Pierre Optique, who negotiated the rights, Peter Blake was paid £10 for each signature and allowed to keep the 50 Artists Proofs. No 499 and No 500/500 were purchased by the Saint Giles Street Gallery and No 499 was embellished on the mount with original ticket stubs, bubblegum cards, official SPLHCB stamps issued by the Royal Mail along with other sundry paper ephemera and sent to Dublin to the Leinster Gallery to form part of their Unseen Beatles Show of Frank Herrmann...
