"Weeds" Colorful Abstract Expressionistic Mixed Media Painting on Canvas

By Paul Indrek Kostabi

Located in New York, NY

Paul Kostabi is known for his wildly fun, expressionistic, and colorful portraits. This painting is a perfect definition of his most popular works. Red, bright whites, greens, and blues disperse in a frenzy of splatters, fast brush strokes, and speckles ascending across the canvas. The exuberant, bright, and messy depictions of this piece hold much fascination in its execution. His layered approach to the paint is part of what makes his works so attractive and exciting; creating many dimensions and highlights resembling the shine and gleam of stars in the universe. This is a unique work painted with mixed media on canvas, is signed by the artist lower left and titled and dated on verso. Art measures 24 x 18 inches Paul Kostabi (Paul Indrek Kostabi) was born in 1962 in Whittier, California. He is an American artist, musician, music producer, and audio engineer. He is the brother of artist Mark Kostabi. He became part of the CBGB Festival in 2014 exhibiting paintings alongside photographers Bob Gruen, Michael Lavine...

Baby Ostrich Bird Portrait Painting Minimal Surreal Art on Linen Canvas

Baby Ostrich Bird Portrait Painting Minimal Surreal Art on Linen Canvas

By Sofía Cristina Jiménez

Located in FISTERRA, ES

Baby ostrich bird portrait painting combining minimal surrealism, theatrical shadow and contemporary figurative art on linen canvas. Baby Ostrich is an original acrylic painting by Sofía Cristina Jiménez from her Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner series, a body of work exploring isolation, theatrical space, humor and visual ambiguity through simplified animal figures. Combining bird portraiture, minimal surrealist painting and carefully constructed light effects, the work transforms an apparently simple scene into a subtle meditation on presence and perception. At the center of the composition, a small blue ostrich occupies the corner of an undefined architectural space. The figure appears simultaneously vulnerable and self-possessed, creating a psychological tension that gives the painting much of its character. Rather than presenting a naturalistic environment, the artist constructs a stage-like setting where space remains deliberately unstable and open to interpretation. A defining element of the work is the dramatic projected shadow extending behind the figure. The shadow exceeds the apparent scale of the ostrich and becomes an active participant in the composition, suggesting an alternative presence, a hidden narrative or an amplified emotional state. This theatrical treatment of light introduces a surreal dimension while preserving the painting’s quiet and contemplative atmosphere. Throughout the Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner series, Sofía Cristina Jiménez uses isolated figures to explore ideas of vulnerability, displacement and symbolic identity. Humor and tenderness coexist with subtle psychological tension, allowing the works to operate on multiple levels simultaneously. The exposed linen surface remains visible throughout significant areas of the composition, contributing warmth, texture and material presence. The contrast between the raw support, muted background and concentrated blue figure creates a refined visual balance that reinforces the painting’s sculptural quality. Executed in acrylic on linen canvas, the work functions equally as a contemporary bird portrait, a minimal surrealist painting and a distinctive contemporary artwork for residential and design-focused interiors. Medium: Acrylic on linen canvas Series: Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner Condition: Excellent original condition Frame: Unframed Installation: Ready to hang Authenticity: Unique original artwork This work is particularly suited for collectors interested in ostrich paintings...

Symbolist Male and Female Couple Portrait Modern Spanish Figurative Oil Painting Surrealist Composition Artist: Ramon Llovet Miserol (Spanish, 1917–1987) Title: Parella (Couple) Date: 1977 Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions (image): Height: 50 cm (19.69 in); Width: 61 cm (24.02 in) Signature: Signed lower right; titled and dated on reverse Condition: Very good overall condition Frame: Unframed Origin: Spain Style: Symbolist figurative modern painting Period: 1970–1979 Subject: Male and female dual portrait symbolic composition Striking symbolic double portrait painted in 1977 by Catalan modern master Ramon Llovet Miserol. The composition presents a contemplative male and female figure arranged in a psychologically charged spatial relationship, set before a geometric floral structure that reinforces the metaphysical atmosphere characteristic of the artist’s mature period. Paintings from Llovet’s late symbolic phase are increasingly sought after for their balance between postwar European figuration and poetic metaphysical narrative language. This work represents a strong example of his spiritual and introspective visual vocabulary developed during the 1970s. During the 1970s Ramon Llovet developed a deeply personal symbolic figurative language connected with the postwar Catalan modern movement surrounding the circle of Joan Ponç and the intellectual environment linked to Modest Cuixart and the legacy of the group Dau al Set. His poetic treatment of the human figure and metaphysical spatial constructions also resonates with the introspective symbolic direction explored by Marc Chagall in later figurative compositions. This painting belongs to the mature phase in which Llovet integrated philosophical reflection and spiritual symbolism into simplified figurative structures. Ramon Llovet Miserol was a Catalan painter associated with the postwar Barcelona artistic scene and the circle of Sala Gaspar. His work evolved from early Noucentisme influences toward a personal symbolic figurative language combining spiritual reflection, poetic structure and modern European composition. During the 1970s his painting reached its most metaphysical phase, producing works that remain among the most recognizable examples of his mature artistic vocabulary.
