Domenico Puligo Paintings

1492-1527

Domenico Puligo was born in Florence in 1492, into a family of blacksmiths, though little else is known of his early life. He trained under Ridolfo Ghirlandaio and briefly worked under Andrea del Sarto, who became a profound influence on the young painter. The majority of Puligo’s output was focused on medium-sized religious paintings such as the present work, which he composed as special commissions for his client’s private devotion. A small group of altarpieces and several commissioned portraits have also been attributed to Puligo. His oeuvre, however, is small, as he died at the young age of just 35 after contracting the plague. Today, majority of his works are found only in museum collections.

Virgin and Child with the Infant Saint John

By Domenico Puligo

Located in New Orleans, LA

A masterful example of Italian Mannerist painting, this exceptional panel was composed by the renowned Florentine painter Domenico Puligo. Alongside Jacopo Pontormo and Rosso Fiorentino, Puligo is remembered as one of the foremost figures of the Mannerist movement that rose to prominence during the 16th century in Florence. This panel of the Virgin Mary with the Christ child and Saint John the Baptist is a characteristic example of his celebrated devotional images, which grace museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Museo del Prado (Madrid), Palazzo Borghese (Rome), and Palazzo Pitti (Florence), among many others. Puligo’s skill with color is fully demonstrated in the beautifully preserved work. Considering its age, the vibrancy and the sheer range of color is remarkable. The Virgin Mary’s crimson dress...

"Diego’s Diary" Figurative Portrait Painting (FRAMED) 24 x 18 in by Isaac Pelayo Medium: Oil and aerosol on wood panel Comes in frame (wood & gold leaf) Size framed: 30" x 24" inch ABOUT THE ARTIST: Isaac Pelayo is a head on crash collision between The Renaissance and Street Art. In a household where constant turmoil and violence were more apparent than most a young Pelayo met escape and peace within the confines of himself and his own creativity. Hispanic born in the heavy beating heart of Los Angeles on the seventh day of June 1996. Pelayo was caught in the crossfires of everything that surrounded him but art served as his only guidance. After dropping out of college Pelayo turned from his hyperrealistic pencil portraits to oil painting where his passions grew more immensely. As of today Pelayo’s work is most influenced and fueled by the crème de la crème of old master painters like Da Vinci, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Velazquez as well as graffiti artists such as RETNA, Shepard Fairey, and EL MAC. In 2017 his work caught the attention and landed in the firm grasp of renown rapper and collector Alvin “Westside Gunn” Worthy. He has created several album covers and artworks for the Buffalo rap moguls music label Griselda Records including his personal collection. Pelayo’s paintings are widely recognized and sought out from all over the globe. His collectors include Sean “Diddy” Combs, Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher, Jeff...
