2010s Abstract Expressionist Don Lisy Art
Oil
Don Lisy was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and creates his art as if revolting against the midwest sensibilities that dominate the critical and popular mindsets of his hometown. Lisy attended the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he studied Printmaking and Painting. Lisy’s work has been compared to the New York school of action painters, however, his work is not derivative from any one school. Each of his works is created in one session. Lisy’s first visit to New York City was in December 1993. Over the years, he often returned to New York City for group exhibitions and also performances with his band. It was during a visit in 2001 that Lisy connected with New York on a new level, which planted the seed that one day he must live there. In the spring of 2010, Lisy left family and friends in Cleveland and made the permanent move to Brooklyn, where he continues to dedicate himself to his artistic vision. In December 2016, after an over decade long absence, Lisy re-established a studio in Cleveland. Lisy’s work has been exhibited across the United States and internationally in Germany, Italy and Spain.

Tryon 11, Oil Painting
By Naoko Tadotsu
Located in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
Artist Naoko Tadotsu displays ethereal expressionism with an image of a blazing tree. The sun sets behind it, giving its silhouette a dark translucent glow. The light reflecting from the river's surface filters through the leaves and twinkles like glass shards. The fiery orange hues against the blue and green accents give the composition warmth and brilliance.
About the Artist
Brilliant prismatic trees radiate in artist Naoko Tadotsu’s expressionist compositions. “I am always in awe of nature, color, and light,†says Naoko. These three facets establish her vibrant works in fluid strokes of vivid hues. Roots of her influence trace back to growing up in Osaka, where these elements were abundant. Naoko migrated to New York where she was immersed and fell in love with the world of art. What was once unexpressed inspiration inevitably translated onto the canvas. Her work often crosses into abstraction, capturing her feelings towards nature and painting it as its own entity. “The trees, like people, show different faces,†adds Naoko. In the same way, her pieces elicit different perspectives from every viewer. All Naoko needs is a portable easel...
