Doris Marten More Art
German, b. 1971
Doris Marten’s paintings explore the perception of colours and their mutual influence, immersing the viewer in an abstract geometric world. She uses lines that reveal colours individually and bring to life the effects of their juxtapositions. The artist has developed a thorough knowledge of colours which allows her to create optical illusions, impressions of movement and intense variations of light. From the beginning of the 2000’s, her work has been regularly exhibited in Germany and elsewhere in the world (United States, Europe). Two of her works have been included in the German Bundestag collection.
“Time is a material that is necessary to create my paintings. Line by line, they are created in a concentrated process that has much in common with the activity of writing or even telling a story.’’to

Blue Return - bold, bright, colorful, abstract, modernist, oil on canvas
By David Sorensen
Located in Bloomfield, ON
A masterful colourist, this engaging abstract is by David Sorensen. The Canadian artist was known for his bright colour palette and dynamic form. This piece—rows of colour—orange, yellow, blue, golden brown, pale green and black overlap and play against a deep blue grid-like background. Sorensen admired and was influenced by the work of Quebec’s Jean-Paul Riopelle and American abstract expressionists Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline.
“To me there is still this celebration worth the paint. And it’s about an open door that the artist used to call muse.” David Sorensen

Havana No 6, Red - bold, bright, colorful, abstract, modernist, oil on canvas
By David Sorensen
Located in Bloomfield, ON
In this colourful abstract painting by David Sorensen, bright red draws the viewer’s eye.
The Canadian artist completed a series of oils after visiting Havana, Cuba in 1999. The Havana series was created using a spatula and paintbrush. The result is highly textured pieces rendered in vivid colours—graphic shapes of lime green, orange, indigo and brown. A grid-like pattern of thick vertical and horizontal lines adds visual drama and contrast.

Triptych - bold, bright, colorful, abstract, modernist, tryptic oil on canvas
By David Sorensen
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Painterly bands of bright lemon, aqua, white and verdant green point to beach, sand and sky in this modernist triptych by David Sorensen.
Through his painterly modern compositions, celebrated Canadian painter David Sorensen (1937-2011) sought to “give voice to the inner reality.” In the paintings from his last years, Sorensen offers solutions to the nature of abstraction – wresting nature and the horizon from pure form and brilliant colour.
Born in Vancouver in 1937, Sorensen studied at UBC and the Vancouver School of Art under Arthur Erickson...
