The jars having ribbed dome shaped lids topped with lion-dog (Komainu) finials, the baluster shaped jars also of corresponding ribbed form. The lids and jars are skillfully hand-decorated in the Imari palette with blue & iron red floral decoration over a white body, on one side are a pair of floral cartouches on another side is a fan shaped cartouche. Presenting a gorgeous French heraldic early 20th century Samson Paris signed porcelain trinket box probably by Edme Samson. Marked on the base with the letters “B” and “W” inside a shield. What appears to be a Samson mark to the right of it and ‘Hand Painted Made in France”. The ormolu rim on the base has serial numbers ‘747-1?. This wonderful Antique hand painted box is just bursting with History. Inspired by Edme Samson of Samson & Co., Paris. we believe (based upon the markings and natural aging) that it was made between 1900–1920 in France and was meant to resemble an antique of a much earlier period. Samson specialized in reproducing antiques from the 1600s and 1700s. One of his most interesting works was his Heraldic or Armorial pieces. This box falls into that category.
