19th Century Large Japanese Imari Ginger Jars

About the Item

A large and very fine condition pair of antique Japanese Imari Ginger jars from the second half of the 19th century. Each is 12 inches in diameter and 19 inches tall. The colors are rich and the pieces are impressive. Inside the jars the previous owners kept copies of the letterhead stationary from the antique business they were purchases. The letterhead copy has a description and estimate of the ginger jars dated Dec. 18, 1980. See photos. The copies show the letterhead printed with: The Jeanette Stock and Sim Boy Collection of Rare Antiquities, Inc., N. A. A. D. (National Assc. of Antique Dealers) Phone no. and "All artifacts guaranteed authentic." Additionally, the hand writing states the following: "Magnificent pair of Japanese Imari ginger jars in a famille rose palette of enamels on a light blue ground. The central medallion is a scene of hand maidens and a lord on a veranda overlooking a Taoist temple (flag) and mountains in the background. The cover is original and depicts sennins in a garden scene. The ground lushly and emblematically shows a floral motif representing the peony (masculine symbol), orchid (beauty symbol), chrysanthemum (symbol of autumn and joviality). The six mark overglaze signature of the bottom and also found on the inside of the cover indicate - creation in the mid nineteenth century 1850 - 1870. Museum quality - Very rare example in pristine condition. Antique value for the pair $5,200.00".
