A fine Louis XVI Style gilt bronze and Pietre Dure mounted ebonised writing table, retailed by Edwards & Roberts.

The drawer edge stamped 'Edwards & Roberts'.
This Fine ebonised writing table has a three-quarter galleried superstructure with cavetto moulding above three cupboards, each with a panel door inset with Fine pietre dure panels of vases issuing flowers. The lower part of the table has a pullout / pull-out writing slide with a dark blue leather writing surface, above a long drawer centred by a tablet mounted with a foliate pietre dure panel. The table is raised on tapering square section legs united by an 'X'-frame stretcher centred by a gilt bronze vase.
The beautiful Florentine pietre dure panels are inlaid in high relief with shaded agates marble, and semi-precious stones. The combination of Fine gilt bronze mounts on an ebonised ground enriched with Fine pietre dure inlay indicates the work of one of the best Parisian ébénistes of the period.
Edwards & Roberts, was one of the principal London companies working in the nineteenth century in the taste of the late Eighteenth Century. They started business in 1845 and by 1854 were trading as 'Edwards & Roberts, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture'.

Artists Biography:
Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp. Edwards & Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu. Edwards & Roberts was one of the principal London companies working in the taste of the late 18th century. This elegant desk is crafted from the most beautiful maple with ebony banded decoration and ormolu beaded stringing.
The rectangular top is inset with a gold tooled dark green leather writing surface above two frieze drawers. It is raised on elegant twin turned and fluted column supports joined by a decorative stretcher and raised on outswept legs.
It is finished on all sides so that it can stand freely in the centre of your room.
Complete with workig locks and key.

This is a sublime satinwood and marquetry desk by Edwards & Roberts, Circa 1880 in date.
This gorgeous desk is freestanding and has been crafted from beautiful satinwood which has been masterfully inlaid with a marquetry of ribbons, swags and garlands.
The rectangular top is beautifully framed with walnut cross-banding and features an inset gold tooled green leather writing surface above seven capacious drawers. The desk is raised on squared tapered legs that terminate in the original brass castors.
It bears the stamp of the renowned cabinet makers Edward and Roberts in the centre drawer.
Complete with the original handles and working loks and key.
This elegant desk will make a wonderful addition to your home or office.
