A beautiful and highly collectible pair of Lalique crystal sparrow figurines, comprising two different poses — one with its head raised upwards and the other with its head lowered. These elegant French crystal birds are produced in Lalique's characteristic combination of clear and satin-finished opaque crystal, creating a beautifully soft, luminous appearance while retaining crisp definition to the feathers, wings and tails. The designs originate from the work of the celebrated French glassmaker and designer René Lalique, whose bird studies became some of the most recognisable animal and nature subjects within the Lalique repertoire. The two sparrows make an especially attractive pair when displayed together, with the contrasting poses giving the set a sense of movement and natural character. Lalique Design & Signature The sparrow designs were originally created by René Lalique in the 1930s and have remained part of the Lalique repertoire. Both pieces bear the engraved “LALIQUE ® FRANCE” signature to the base/edge area, as shown in the photographs. The presence of the registered ® mark is particularly useful when dating Lalique pieces, as this marking was introduced on Lalique production after 1978. These examples therefore represent later production of René Lalique's original designs rather than pieces made during his lifetime. The combination of clear polished crystal with satin-finished surfaces beautifully highlights the sculptural forms of the birds, while the understated monochrome finish gives them a sophisticated Art Deco character. Two Complementary Poses The pair consists of: Sparrow with Head Up A charming alert pose with the bird's head raised, creating a particularly elegant silhouette. Sparrow with Head Down A complementary pose with the head lowered, giving the bird a more relaxed and natural character. Displayed together, the two pieces make a particularly effective Lalique collection or decorative arrangement.
