A French mid-century era ceramic cheese charcuterie platter manufactured by Ceramiques Elchinger, circa 1960s. The tray is hand-painted with the names of popular cheeses on a matte finish creamy white ground. The selections include Roquefort, Camembert, Brie, Suisse, Chester, Gruyère, Hollande, along with Buerre in the center. The titles are painted in script over brightly colored kidney-shaped forms. A fun, heavy platter for entertaining. Ceramiques Elchinger was established in 1834 in Soufflenheim, in the Alsace region of France. The factory became a leading pottery producer in Europe and was hugely successful during the 1950’s and 60’s. Measures: 11.5 in. in diameter x 1 in. height Impressed mark – “France” – on the verso. Light, minor utensil marking as expected of a matte glazed pottery.
