1940s Pair of Early Charles Eames for Herman Miller Lcw Lounge Chairs in Birch
By Evans Products Company, Herman Miller, Charles and Ray Eames
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Designed in the late 1940s by Charles Eames, this chair has cemented itself in Mid-Century Design like very few other pieces. Early models like this are difficult to come by and are very rarely in such good condition, as many have been worked on in some way or another before their value shot up. These chairs feature a super sleek design of steam-bent plywood, an incredibly innovative technique pioneered by Herman Miller in collaboration with the Eames's and manufacturing firm Evans. The large seat and back are mounted to a molded plywood base with rubber shock mounts, another Eames staple. This allows them to have excellent contrast through spacing, which gives them an excellent stance, almost insect-like. Both are early chairs with the 5-2-5 screw configurations beneath.
This pair features all original hardware, finish, and shock mounts. Very few blemishes, and those that exist are minimal, barely visible even in our high-res pictures.
At this time, we have two early pairs, as seen in in photos. We also have another single early model, and two extremely rare pre-production chairs with the accompanying molded plywood coffee table...

1948 Eames Evans for Herman Miller DCM Dining Chairs Metal & Walnut Set of Five
By Evans Products Company, Charles and Ray Eames
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Listed for sale is an original set of five DCM chairs, designed by Charles and Ray Eames. This particular set dates to approximately 1948 and was produced by Evans plywood company (the earliest manufacturer of these chairs). Notable also is that they were specified in Walnut, which contrasts the metal legs beautifully. These chairs retain their original feet, shock mounts (some may have been replaced during their lifetime), and screws. The walnut panels may show some wear. Please see photos. Their Evans production can be confirmed based primarily on the feet and headrest connection. Only early Evans examples had this round, circular detail connecting the backrest to the frames. Please note that the chair frames have not been cleaned, as some collectors prefer fully original examples. If requested, we can certainly clean the frames to remove the oxidation noted in the photos.
Another set of four Evans DCM...

Vitra Germany Miniature Eames Plywood Elephant
By Vitra, Charles and Ray Eames
Located in Miami, FL
Design Charles & Ray Eames, 1945
1/6 miniature scale model
Made in Poland by Vitra
For over two decades, the Vitra Design Museum has been making miniature replicas of milestones in furniture design. The Miniatures Collection encapsulates the entire history of industrial furniture design - moving from Historicism and Art Nouveau to the New Objectivity of Bauhaus and Radical Design, and from Postmodernism all the way up to the present day. Exactly one sixth of the size of the historical originals, the chairs are all true to scale and precisely recreate the smallest details of construction, material and color. The high standard of authenticity even extends to the natural grain of the wood, the reproduction of screws and the elaborate handicraft techniques involved. This has made the miniatures into popular collector's items as well as ideal illustrative material for universities, design schools and architects.
The Plywood Elephant holds a prominent place among the plywood pieces designed by the Eameses. In the early 1940s Charles and Ray Eames successfully developed an innovative method for molding plywood into three-dimensional shapes, which they used to produce a wide range of furniture and sculptural objects. Among the early plywood designs, the Elephant is one of the most difficult to produce. Tight angles and compound curves require a sophisticated mastery of plywood technology.
Designed at the same time as their children's furniture, the Plywood Elephant can also be seen as a playful counterpart to the leg splints developed by the Eameses for military applications, which were the very first mass-produced objects made of three-dimensionally molded plywood.
Requiring complex fabrication methods, the Plywood Elephant never went into production. Only two prototypes were made, both of which were displayed at the New York Museum of Modern Art in 1945-46. Today only one known model remains in the possession of the Eames Family. In 2007 Vitra produced the first commercial production of the legendary Eames Plywood Elephant...
