Frederic Whiting Art
Frederic Whiting, whose picture of the present Queen Elizabeth on Horseback in the palace grounds, accompanied by Her Royal sister, is much treasured by their Royal Mother. He was born in London, son of Alfred Whiting and Julia Grace, née Taylor, trained at the St John's Wood School of Art, the Royal Academy and the Académie Julian in Paris before serving as a war correspondent for The Graphic in China during the Boxer Rebellion and in Manchuria during the Russo-Japanese War. He also taught at Heatherley School of Fine Art with Ian McNab and Bernard Adams. Whiting was a widely traveled painter of many portraits and an associate of the Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Water Colour. Along with exhibiting at these venues, he also exhibited at the Royal Academy, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts and Liverpool Walker Art Gallery. Whiting died in Surrey, England in 1962, aged 89. Whiting displayed a genius for drawing horses and became a formidable painter of the British Sporting Scene.
