About the Item

As a Mexican musician sings and plays the guitar dressed for the day of the dead. He is being unknowingly stalked by a mythical beast. Little does he know that he is singing about his own mortal demise. Life is transient. This piece is framed in a heavy dark wooden frame measuring 29h x 23w x 1.5d inches. Christopher A. Klein Desert Desert, 2024 oil on panel 24h x 18w in 60.96h x 45.72w cm CK0025 Christopher A. Klein b. 1954, Washington DC Christopher Klein spent 26 years at National Geographic Magazine. His career at National Geographic brought him around the world. He lived with peoples from Egypt to South America, studied history and artifacts of ancient times and delved into the intricacies of creatures like tarantulas and horseshoe crabs. His research transformed into illustrations filling the pages of National Geographic Magazine. In retirement, he is back to his surrealistic roots—combining his love of surrealism with the breadth of his life experience. “Surrealism is a way for me to create my own world,” says Klein. “Whether it be an archeological recreation, deep sea representation, or a futuristic scene, my use of realistic juxtapositions proved to be my key to scientific art with the National Geographic Society. My ability to render in high detail and a vivid imagination are the prerequisites for creating accurate paintings of historic people, the places they lived and worshipped, as well as the inner workings of both animals and machines. After 26 years of scientific art, my work is now going full circle back to my fine art roots in surrealism, now reflecting realistic images in unnatural settings or unnatural images in even more bizarre environments”.

The Sound of the Changing Season - Surreal Rural Scene, Hyper-realistic
By Christopher Klein
Located in Chicago, IL
A violinist, playing a melancholy tune, helps conjure up the change of season from fall to winter on Halloween, as represented by the black cat. The cat is holding the Tempest in the Teapot kettle. The raven, who is bursting forth from the steam of this tempest, represents the cold, dark and harsh winter to come. Mark Bowers Yes, But Does it Float oil on linen 21.75h x 14.75w in 55.24h x 37.47w cm MJB004 Mark Bowers- Artist Statement With the depiction of landscape playing such a central role in the history of North American art, it seemed to offer many of the critical possibilities I was looking for, and it felt more and more like something I have always known. Something I could easily apply, stage, and manipulate as a diary. My work consists of small-scale highly detailed landscape paintings. They are inspired by the comfort, trepidation, and beauty found in the mundane Chicago Suburbs. I combine nature, decorative house wares...

Enigma - Surreal Scene With Figure in Muted Greys, Original Oil on Canvas Framed
By John Seubert
Located in Chicago, IL
An enigma by definition is a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand. Such is the subject matter of John Seubert, aka John Grey's painting of the same name. The sphynx-like figure stares out at the viewer holding what appears to be a large bowl. The surreal scene is framed in a repurposed frame that the artist has distressed and painted. It measures 25.5h x 21.5w inches. John Seubert Enigma, 2023 oil on canvas 20h x 16w in 50.80h x 40.64w cm JSE076 John Seubert b. 1958, Chicago, IL In the early Nineties, John Seubert was living in a former hotel in a high-rise building on St. James Place in Chicago. The apartment was tiny, as hotel rooms tend to be, and clad with paper-thin walls allowing sound to pass from one apartment to the other. At the time, John’s artwork consisted of pounding copper sheets into tables which was a noisy endeavor to say the least. Following several noise complaints from the neighbors, John had a dream that he was living in a ramshackle house but with plenty of room to work and no attached neighbors. The following day after lunching at the McDonalds in Lincoln Park, John wandered the neighborhood a came upon a shabby, falling-down old Victorian house. He located the real estate agent, put in an offer, and weeks later was pushing a shopping cart full of his belongings to his new home. This 144-year-old Painted Lady provided a blank canvas for this inimitable artist. For many years the house remained so empty that John was able to ride his Japanese fold up bike throughout the 1st floor. “Some people want to have sex...
