Gabrielle Mackiewicz Boxes

French, 1928-2019

Born in 1928 in Lille, Gabrielle Mackiewicz (née Lomprez) took classes in modeling, drawing, and life drawing at the School of Decorative Arts in Grenoble for three years (1956 to 1959).

She continued her professional training by undertaking numerous internships, notably with Gilbert Portanier and Roger Capron (at the Font des Horts pottery) in Vallauris.

She then founded her ceramics workshop to sell her work in Seyssins, near Grenoble, and later opened her boutique "Art et feu" (on Montorge street) in 1968.

Between 1963 and 1967, she exhibited in many Parisian salons (Salon des Ateliers d'Art, Salon de l'Art) and notably received a diploma of honor in 1963, awarded by the Ministry of Industry in the Art Craftsmanship category at the La Cordée gallery.

She developed her own artistic style that reveals her taste for both free-form and more figurative designs.

Her use of color and the finesse of her execution establish her as a high-level ceramic artist, and the rarity of her pieces makes her body of work exceptional.

Her boutique closed in 1992, and Gabrielle continued to express herself through her art, particularly painting.
