This set of three non-drip drink dispenser measures was a must have for any professional bar. Also known as optics due to their resemblance to optical lenses, these gravity-fed dispensers took any guesswork out of dispensing the correct amount of spirits for a drink by measuring it automatically. Constructed by Gaskell & Chambers of Birmingham, England, each optic is mounted to a sturdy brass frame and stamped optic pearl. This present optic bar is designed specifically to dispense exactly one -sixth gill of liquor, and bears the appropriate labels. Cork stoppers eliminate dripping, thereby preventing waste.
In 1963, it became illegal in England for businesses to give short weights or short measures to consumers, and this included alcohol. To ensure that one got what one paid for, either thimble measures, into which a shot was poured out by hand, or optics were used. Measuring between 23.7 - 35.5 ml, optics worked by filling with alcohol from an inverted bottle...
