Vibrant autumn landscape by Japanese artist Tamiko Oberholtzer (1928-2016). Signed "Tamiko" in the lower right corner. No frame. Tamiko Oberholtzer (Japanese, 1928-2016) was born in Tokyo, Japan and later moved to the United States after meeting her husband, David Maurice Oberholtzer, while he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Tamiko and her husband arrived in California by ship and then made their way to Indiana by car to her new home in Bowling Green, Indiana. In addition to her artistic talents, Oberholtzer was also an excellent musician, seamstress, and gardener. She passed away in November of 2016. Doris Lyons Hoover (American, 1927-2014) was born in Fort Payne, Alabama, on Oct. 8, 1927, on her grandparents' farm. She was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and attended college at the University of Chattanooga, (now UTC) where she received honors in ar. At U.C. she met her husband Jack Hoover, and the couple moved to Palo Alto in 1954. Doris Hoover became a nationally known fabric artist, teacher, lecturer and co-founder of the Peninsula Stitchery Guild, a leading organization in the Bay Area Crafts Movement of the 1970s. After her education there, and brief training at the age of six in art schools in Venice, Italy, while on a European sojourn with her father, she studied fine art at the Académie Julian, the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie Grande Chaumière in Paris, France, during the 1920s and 1930s. After returning to the United States, Mrs. Hamilton studied at the Art Students League, New York, New York, and the Cincinnati Art Academy, Cincinnati, Ohio.
