Guadalupe Laiz Art
Guadalupe Laiz is an international artist, photographer and explorer born and raised in Argentina. She moved to the US aspiring to start her career as a photographer at 18. She claims that her real education began after attending art school with a degree in photography in Colorado. Laiz’s main focus for these past four years has been an extensive body of work capturing the beauty and uniqueness of the indigenous horses of Iceland. Her body of work from the upcoming book, Horses of Iceland has been shown in exhibitions in the United States, France, Iceland and Switzerland. Driven by the belief that art and beauty transform how people think about conservation and nature, she focuses on the environment and animals that are pure and gentle by their very nature. Laiz’s efforts are to communicate through art the importance of animal abuse awareness, environmental issues and the relevance of educating all generations to make conscious lifestyle decisions to protect our planet.

This photograph is from her newest series "Among the Living." For this body of work, Laiz traveled across the African continent for six years, visiting Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Batswana, Rwanda, and Uganda. Forgoing comfort often for months at a time, she returned with intimate portraits of the charismatic and fierce, yet vulnerable and endangered animals she encountered. It is impossible to look at one of her photographs and not feel her subject’s innate individuality. "The discovery of fast cars and auto racing rocked my world as a high school student in the early 1960s. After graduating I did everything I could to wrangle assignments to cover two of the biggest international endurance races held annually in Florida. The Daytona 24-Hour and Sebring 12-Hour races were the highlight of my early years as a photographer. Covering racing events in the Sixties was a lot different from what it is today. Access to the racers and the cars was much easier and there were far fewer photographers covering any event. As a fan and a photojournalist in search of a great story, I usually hung around Carroll Shelby’s pit. Shelby and his Cobras were always race winning contenders. “Shel” was easy to work with and to be around. He let me do what I wanted and go where I pleased to capture a story.
