Hugo Urrutia Art

Hugo Garcia Urrutia graduated from the Architectural Association in 2013, earning a Master of Architecture in the Design & Make program. In 2000, he graduated from Texas Tech University, with a Bachelor of Architecture and Design, and received the 2000 Outstanding Thesis Award. He is a multidisciplinary artist-designer, interested in the cross-pollination between art and architecture. His artwork challenges the notion of what constitutes a piece of art. As a graduate and active member of the Architectural Association in the United Kingdom, Urrutia's work creates a distinct spatiality located at the intersection of art and architecture. His work explores and uses technology for design and fabrication, with a sensitive and conscious reminder of the creativity of human endeavor. In the series titled Flexible Rigids, Urrutia explores sculptural forms that simulate smooth harmonic movements of a flexible surface, initiating the process from a rigid surface. In 2004, he founded Decorazon Gallery in Dallas’ Bishop Arts District, where he curated and exhibited numerous art exhibitions for national and international artists. His personal artwork has been exhibited worldwide.

From Dusk To Dawn - Sculptural Geometric Abstract Metallic Wood Wall Artwork
By Hugo Urrutia
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Hugo Urrutia’s “From Dusk to Dawn” is a masterful 29-inch high by 38-inch wide sculptural wall artwork, crafted with meticulous precision using oil lacquer paint on carved Baltic birch. Part of his acclaimed “Flexible Rigids” series, this work challenges the boundaries between rigid geometry and fluid motion, transforming a structured surface into a captivating, undulating form. Urrutia’s innovative approach to sculptural abstraction and his ability to evoke natural harmony through architectural precision make this artwork ideal for collectors of modern wall sculptures, geometric art, and unique design-inspired pieces. In “From Dusk to Dawn”, Urrutia builds a mesmerizing composition of repeating triangular modules, meticulously carved to create a dynamic wave-like effect across the surface. The artwork’s deep red gradient transitions from darker tones at the top to vibrant crimson hues at the base, suggesting a natural progression reminiscent of twilight giving way to morning light. The carved facets interact beautifully with light, producing subtle shifts in shadows, reflections, and tones that shift as the viewer changes perspective. The repetitive geometric pattern creates both rhythm and structure, while the gentle curvature of the surface adds an organic flow, echoing Urrutia’s inspiration from natural phenomena like rippling water, wind-blown fabric, or synchronized flocks of birds. The contrast between the bold, rich hues and the natural wood accents further enhances the sculpture’s modern elegance, making it a striking centerpiece for contemporary interiors and architectural spaces. Key Features: Original artwork: Sculptural wall art crafted with carved Baltic birch and oil lacquer paint Dimensions: 29 inches high by 38 inches wide; 5 inches deep Design concept: “Flexible Rigids” series, transforming rigid geometry into flowing, harmonic forms Visual impact: Rich red gradient with natural wood accents and dynamic triangular carvings Display: Signed by the artist on the back; no framing required Certificate of authenticity included with purchase Delivery: Free local Los Angeles area delivery; affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available Hugo Urrutia, a multidisciplinary artist and architect, explores the intersection of art, design, and technology in his sculptural works. A graduate of the prestigious Architectural Association in London, Urrutia has exhibited his works worldwide, solidifying his reputation as a visionary artist who redefines the relationship between art and space. “From Dusk to Dawn” is a stunning exploration of geometry, color, and form, seamlessly blending organic flow with architectural structure. Ideal for modern interiors, creative workspaces, or gallery walls, this one-of-a-kind sculpture transforms its environment with a dynamic energy and sophisticated elegance. Music Sonata In A Shadow Box
By Erik J. Erikson
Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL
Music Sonata In A Shadow Box 2023 Mixed Media, artist signed, front Plexiglas. This sculpture is perfect for the wall or a coffee table. This 3D music diorama found its home in a drawer from an antique Tansu Chest. Some of the 3D elements were made by Erikson. Antique materials achieve a vintage and interesting aesthetic. The depth of the case creates a stage like atmosphere as sort of a visual guide for the viewers eye. The overlapping and juxtaposition of the elements creates a intriguing and appealing composition. Very often Erikson art echoes and fuses antiquity and modernity. Erikson’s central imagery concerns itself with intrigue and a sense of surprise. His body of work is often dispersed with visual, tactile and intellectual delights that lead the viewer on their own form of discovery. Erikson’s awareness of the aesthetic in sending things back in time is a result of studying the Renaissance and other periods of art history. This infusion of historical art references has had a vital effect on his body of work. Heavily influenced by the well known New York art dealer Allan Stone (who represented, among other giants, Joseph Cornell, and Willem de Kooning, Erikson has never departed from Stone’s insistence that “surprise” should remain with a piece of art no matter how long it is viewed. The discipline of archeology decodes messages of the past to find meanings of objects and classify them. This observation takes the viewer on a deeper understanding of the interplay. As a curator of his own “museum cases” in other work, Erikson’s personal vocabulary evokes images of extreme preciousness combined in miniature settings. Despite its minute scale his work commands presence and a sense of vastness. In his body of work, Erikson attempts to introduce sculpture to painting as a way of integrating the second and third dimensions.
