Crystalline Glaze Ceramic Vase, Red and Beige, American Art Studio Pottery

Located in Clifton Springs, NY

The monumental studio pottery ceramic vase is decorated with crystalline glaze in striking, dark red and beige palette. The vase was hand thrown on a wheel; beige color crystals on ombre colored base, shifting from purplish tones on top to deep, dark red on the bottom, were grown in a kiln during a very long, controlled firing. Each crystalline piece is unique due to the nature of the glaze. The vase was allowed to develop an abundance of distinct, graphic crystals, creating a free-flowing abstract pattern and adding rich texture to the minimally shaped piece. The vase was made by Wizards of Clay...

California Studio Pottery Blue and White Vase by Catalina Pottery

By Catalina Pottery

Located in San Diego, CA

A very nice vintage California studio pottery ceramic vase by Catalina Pottery, circa 1930s. Great look and form on this gorgeous robin egg blue and white vessel. The piece is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks and measures 3.5"D x 5.75"H. Hard to find piece of Catalina Pottery! #4359 Catalina Pottery (or Catalina Island Pottery) is the commonly used name for Catalina Clay Products, a division of the Santa Catalina Island Company, which produced brick, tile, tableware and decorative pottery on Santa Catalina Island, California. Catalina Clay Products was founded in 1927 by William Wrigley, Jr. of the Wrigley chewing gum family. He built a tile and brick pottery factory on a beach located near Avalon, Santa Catalina Island. The new pottery became Catalina Clay Products, a division of Wrigley's Santa Catalina Island Company. The pottery used local clays from the Island and had two business purposes: to produce clay building products and to provide the much needed year-round employment for Island residents. Gladding, McBean & Co. acquired all of the assets of the company in 1937 and moved all production to its Franciscan dinnerware...

Collection of Four Vintage Pottery Pieces Aubergine Yellow Plum Green Swirl

Collection of Four Vintage Pottery Pieces Aubergine Yellow Plum Green Swirl

By Frankoma Pottery, Hull Pottery

Located in Topeka, KS

Handsome collection of four vintage pottery pieces including an aubergine bowl, Hull yellow vase, plum or eggplant Frankoma ewer, and a swirl green with purple pot. They are all in wonderful vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or chiggers. The swirl pot does have drip marks that I’m not sure are from age or the original dipping process which created the swirl, but it does not detract from the beauty of the piece. Please see photos. We have priced these as a set of four, circa 20th century. Because they look so beautiful together, we are selling these four amazing 20th century American pottery pieces as a set. Maybe it’s a start of a collection for you or maybe you just love them for their looks! The first piece is a gorgeous aubergine bowl which is unsigned but through research we attribute it to Dryden due to its wonderful matte glaze. The second piece is marked. It is a Hull early 1920s vase with a very unusual golden yellow and green with touches of plum or aubergine gloss glaze. It is absolutely stunning! The third piece is also signed. It is an ewer by Frankoma the famous Oklahoma pottery. Glazed in either their plum or eggplant color which is so deep it is almost black in some of the photos. The fourth and last piece is a bit of a puzzle and it is unmarked. Its fabulous swirl green, yellow, with touches of aubergine remind us of both Nemadji pottery...

Questions About Hull Pottery Decorative Objects
  • 1stDibs ExpertMarch 22, 2022
Yes, Hull pottery is marked. Pieces made around the turn of the 20th century feature either a wreath with the gallon size or a capital "H" positioned inside of a circle or diamond. In the thirty years that followed, the brand shifted to using "Hull USA," "Hull Art USA," or "Hull." After 1950, all pieces showed the word "Hull" in either script or block lettering. On 1stDibs, find a range of expertly vetted Hull pottery.
  • 1stDibs ExpertAugust 29, 2024
To tell if Hull Pottery is real, search your piece for the maker's marking. Most pieces will feature the word “Hull” in script or block letters. By comparing the marking to images found on trusted online resources, you can begin to assess authenticity. Also, look for the style number near the maker's mark. Hull assigned different numbers to each of its lines. For example, most pieces from the Wildflower range have a “W” beside a number. Double-checking that the number on your pottery matches its style can help you determine if your piece is real. A certified appraiser or knowledgeable antique dealer can provide an expert opinion as to the authenticity of your pottery. Find a selection of Hull pottery on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertOctober 24, 2024
To tell how old Hull pottery is, conduct research on your piece using trusted online resources. The maker's mark is a good starting point because, over the years, Hull used an array of marks. By cross-referencing the mark on your pottery with images found in online reference guides, you can get a rough idea of when it was produced. Some pieces also display a letter code that corresponds to its line. You can also search online catalogues to locate your piece and find its production year. Another approach is to have a certified appraiser or knowledgeable antique dealer date it for you. Shop a selection of Hull pottery on 1stDibs.
