Cast-off cedar logs are given second life as a crystalline form. Named Little Gem, the natural beauty of reclaimed wood is harnessed in this side table and sculpture piece where nature informs design. Each Little Gem is hand-shaped and faceted based on the different characteristics of the log used, and variations in wood grain. Top surface and finish further ensure that no two are alike. Since the opening of her interior design studio in Paris in 1999, India Mahdavi keeps pushing the boundaries of her creative consulting from design to architecture, as well as scenography and styling. Venturing the whole world, she developed a rigorous aesthetic and architectural vocabulary unceasingly renewed, that can be seen in every project. Among her most important projects are institutions like Claridges in London, Monte Carlo Beach in Monaco, or more intimate places where she restored a singular identity like the Hotel du Cloitre in Arles or Thoumieux house in Paris. Rich of artistic complicities, she has just signed with the M/M (Paris) le Café Français on Bastille square in Paris, and works with Joseph Dirand on L’Apogée Courchevel for the group Oetker. Landscapes project is an abstract color composition inspired by Iznik tiles...

Questions About India Mahdavi Side Tables
  • 1stDibs ExpertJanuary 19, 2025
What made India Mahdavi famous was her early work in architecture and design. After receiving an education at prestigious schools including the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, and the Cooper Union and Parsons School of Design in New York City, New York, the French-Iranian architect and designer went to work for Christian Liaigre and assisted with projects that involved creating high-end interiors. She struck out on her own in 1999 and in 2000, executed the design for the Hôtel du Cloître in Arles, France. The project gave Mahdavi the opportunity to show off her trademark style with an emphasis on bold colors, textures and whimsical flourishes. The project attracted attention and opened the doors for Mahdavi to become widely known for her achievements. Find a collection of India Mahdavi furniture on 1stDibs.
