This bold and beautifully composed 1937 poster for Cycles Favor Motos is a triumphant celebration of French mechanical excellence. Created by the talented duo Pierre and Jacques Bellenger, it promotes the dual prowess of Favor: a brand equally at home in the realms of bicycles and motorbikes. The central figure—a robust, smiling mechanic—stands out immediately. Rendered in striking Art Deco colors of red and blue, he cradles a bicycle in one hand and a motorcycle in the other as if weighing their virtues, suggesting technical mastery and effortless strength. His confident stance and broad grin echo the poster’s tagline: "De la belle mécanique!" (Beautiful mechanics!) The composition is dynamic yet perfectly balanced: the precision of the machines contrasts with the bold, stylized figure, and the typography is just as commanding. The name FAVOR is set in monumental yellow letters, grounding the design and drawing the viewer’s eye directly to the brand. At the time, Favor was a prestigious manufacturer based in Clermont-Ferrand, known for its high-quality, lightweight racing bicycles and later, for its solid and stylish motorcycles. This poster reflects a moment when mobility, modern engineering, and industrial pride were marketed with vibrant optimism. It’s also a rare early collaboration between both Bellenger brothers, whose graphic work helped define the era’s commercial visual language. Printed by Vasselais in Paris—one of the era’s respected lithographers—this poster exemplifies the best of pre-war French advertising: bold, technically impressive, and infused with a spirit of innovation.
