An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver mustard pot made by Edward & John Barnard; an addition to our silver cruets/condiments collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has a plain cylindrical form. The body of the mustard pot is embellished with pierced interlacing scrolling leaf designs. The upper and lower rim of this sterling mustard pot is ornamented with an applied bead decorated border. This fine mustard pot retains the original hallmarked hinged domed cover surmounted with an impressive interlacing tri-lobed thumbpiece. This antique piece is fitted with an opposing scroll handle ornamented with a plain scrolling thumbpiece. The mustard pot retains the original removable blue glass liner. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body and part hallmarks to the interior of cover are all very clear; the maker's mark to the interior of the cover have wear in keeping with age. These fine antique George V sterling silver menu card holders have circular shaped bases. Each piece is surmounted with an impressive wishbone* shaped design with a paralleling shaped support. The subtly convex bases are encircled with an elevated scalloped border. The weighted bases of these impressive menu holders are fitted with green baize to the underside. This impressive set of antique silver menu card holders is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with two hinged catches. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Robert Stewart (Jewellers) Ltd, 75 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow'. A wishbone, otherwise known as the furcular, is a forked bone found in birds and some dinosaurs. The main function of the bone is to provide strength between the neck and breast, to protect the creature during battle. The Ancient Romans perceived this bone as a symbol of luck which allowed the progression of breaking a dried chicken wishbone apart whilst making a wish; this procedure determined the person with the bigger half would receive their wish or have good fortune.
