This painting features hues of yellow, orange and purple. Chattanooga-based artist Christina Renfer Vogel’s “Turning Towards the Sun” features paintings that reflect an intentional turn towards beauty in the face of the tension & uncertainty of recent years. Through nourishing periods of focused observation, she has allowed herself to delight in jubilant color, playful pattern & sensual gesture. Her works delight in the delicate unfurling of a tender leaf & the gentle turn towards an open window, as flowers seek warmth & stretch towards sunlight in the space of a painting session. “Bringing plants...

Dimensions with frame: 44 x 57 x 5 cm. Signed and dated "Arthur 48" in the lower left corner. A striking and modernist still life depicting three freshly caught fish arranged on a white ceramic platter beside a simple kitchen knife. Executed with confident, textured brushwork and a restrained palette, the composition transforms an everyday subject into a powerful study of form, color, and materiality. The artist emphasizes the tactile qualities of the fish through thick impasto and nuanced earthy tones, contrasting beautifully against the luminous white tablecloth and the deep, almost abstract dark background. The dynamic placement of the fish creates a subtle rhythm across the composition, while the pared-down setting recalls the directness and honesty of early 20th-century European still life painting. Influenced by Post-Impressionist and modern realist traditions, the work balances painterly spontaneity with careful observation. The expressive handling of paint and simplified composition evoke the spirit of French and Continental modernist still lifes of the early to mid-20th century. An elegant and sophisticated still life ideal for collectors of European modernism, culinary subjects, and expressive figurative painting. still life painting, fish still life, modernist still life, Post-Impressionist painting, European still life, fish painting, culinary still life, kitchen still life, French still life painting, School of Paris, expressionist still life, oil on canvas still life, impasto painting, rustic still life, seafood painting, market fish painting, tabletop still life, knife in still life, modern European painting, figurative still life, early modernism, painterly still life, collectible still life art, Continental painting, expressive brushwork, white plate still life, food still life painting...

"Viareggio, Italy" is an impressionist watercolor painting of a beautiful seaside city just outside the hills of tuscany in Italy. Nelson H. White was born in New London, Connecticut in 1932. White has been surrounded by art and artists from the time he was born. He received his earliest art instruction from his grandfather, Henry Cooke White (1861-1952) and his father Nelson Cooke White (1900-1989), both important American artists. The family lived in Waterford, Connecticut and the elder White had been an early member of the art colony in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Known for his paintings of the Connecticut landscape and shoreline, Henry Cooke White became a teacher to his son, Nelson Cooke White. Living with his parents at the Florence Griswold house in Old Lyme, he met some of the most important and influential artists of the day, Childe Hassam, Will Howe Foote and Harry Hoffman. Later, Nelson White's father began to take his family to summer on Shelter Island and became friendly with many of the artists of the Peconic colony such as Irving Wiles, an important American impressionist. After graduating from the Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts in 1951, Nelson H. White began to study at Mitchell College in Connecticut but left to pursue studies in the violin, musical theory and composition. At this time, he began to spend more time studying art with his father and grandfather. By 1955, Nelson H. White had decided to devote himself to a career as a painter and traveled to Florence, Italy to become an apprentice to Pietro Annigoni, the world-renowned Florentine master. Within two years, the young White had won two awards for his work. While in Florence he also studied with the great Italian teacher, Nerina Simi. Today, White divides his time between the United States and Florence. Although he has received instruction from some very important artists, White's work is highly individual. He paints with great spirit. Upon seeing his work one quickly senses White’s great love for nature and the outdoors. Through his eyes we are able to view and interpret nature in an intimate manner. Whether Nelson H. White is painting the Connecticut shore...
