This is an exceptional high-quality antique English Victorian coromandel and brass banded jewellery box and dressing casket by the renowned manufacturers of boxes and caskets, Jenner & Knewstub of London, and dated March 1873.
This splendid dressing casket is rectangular in shape and features a luxurious double-strung thick brass border, with the centre of the lid displaying a Gothic initialled monogram engraved with the initials 'CMK'.
It is fitted with a superb Bramah locking mechanism which is in exceptionally good order and iy opens to reveal a magnificent interior with three rectangular compartments ready to store your precious items.
The underside of the lid has a hidden catch which opens to reveal a "billet-doux" compartment with a blue velvet backed reversible mirror which can be removed to reveal a secret fitted grooming compartment.
Moreover, there is a push button to the centre which when pressed releases a spring-operated hidden drawer fitted with a large velvet lined compartment and a ring stand.
The interior of the casket bears the brass plaque of the retailer and manufacturer 'Jenner & Knewstub 33 St James St, London' as well as two brass plaques placed near the opening mechanism that are engraved 'Bramah London'.
It comes complete with its two keys and tassels.
